Hello! I would recommend calling a professional lock smith. It is not an easy job!

Answered by Mitchell D. / Wed, Nov 10It needs to be rolled forward into the on position. Without a key you could use a screwdriver on these old ignitions and turn it over. From there just regular replacement. Pretty easy actually.

Answered by Xavier P. / Thu, Nov 25I had a locksmith get the key out the first time. This time I'll try it myself. The release button would not work today when I tried to take the new lock back out, so I'm not sure what I'll do now.

As long as your key looks similar (does not have a transponder), then this will work without programming!

Hi Tina,
This is just a regular ignition lock cylinder with the keys and not a transponder key. Transponder keys are keys that have an RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) chip inside the head of the key. These types of keys have become an industry standard for vehicle manufacturers. This is because the RFID chip adds an extra layer of security to your vehicle's ignition.

Hello, changing the ignition cylinder should not deploy the airbag, however, it is advisable to disconnect the battery just in case

Answered by Mitchell D. / Tue, May 12No. There is no connection between the ignition lock and airbag trip mechanism. To change the igition lock you will remove(held in with phillips head screws, accessed from underneath) the two plastic "clamshell" shrouds on steering column behind steering wheel. You will need the old key to get the old ignition lock out. There is a metal pushbutton that is underneath or on top that you woulld press in with a small screwdriver while turning lock. The old unit shoud twist right out. The new one should push right in.
