Chairman of the Board
Warren B. Phelps III has been a director since September 2007 and Chairman of the Board since August 2017. Since January 2013, he has served as Executive Chairman of Empower RF Systems, a developer and manufacturer of high power RF amplifiers for the defense and commercial markets. Warren joined the Board of Empower in February 2007, and served as its Chairman and CEO from October 2009 to January 2013. Since May of 2017, Warren has also served on the Board of Luna Innovations, a developer and manufacturer of high-speed optical test products for the commercial and defense markets. From 2000 until his retirement in September 2006, Warren served in several executive positions for Spirent Communications plc, a leading communications technology company, most recently as President of the Performance Analysis-Broadband Division. From 1996 to 2000, Warren was at Netcom Systems, a provider of network test and measurement equipment, most recently as President and Chief Executive Officer. Prior to that, Warren held executive positions, including Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at MICOM Communications, and various financial management roles at Burroughs/Unisys Corporation. He also serves on the Board of Trustees of St. Lawrence University.
Warren holds a B.S. degree in mathematics from St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York, and an M.B.A. from the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York.
We believe that Warren is qualified to serve as both a Board member and as the financial expert of our Audit Committee due to his extensive experience as a President and Chief Executive Officer of a variety of companies in the technology industry, as well as his experience in financial management roles, including the creation and oversight of internal controls, preparation of financial statements, and coordination of the audits for public companies.
Chief Executive Officer and Director
Lev Peker has been our Chief Executive Officer and a Director since January 2019. He previously served as the Chief Marketing Officer of Adorama Camera, Inc., a leading online destination for photography, imaging, and consumer electronics, from August 2015 to December 2018. Prior to that time, Lev served as the Senior Director and General Manager of eCommerce Strategy and Operations of Sears Holding Corporation, a leading integrated retailer providing merchandise and related services, from August 2014 to July 2015. From April 2008 to July 2014, Lev served in various roles at US Auto Parts (former company name of CarParts.com, Inc.), including as Vice President and General Manager of Online Marketplaces from June 2013 to July 2014, as Director and General Manager of Online Marketplaces from March 2009 to June 2013, and as Manager of Financial Planning and Analysis from April 2008 to March 2009. Lev’s also served as a Senior Financial Analyst at Smart & Final, Inc., as a Senior Analyst at KPMG, and as a Senior Associate at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP.
Lev holds a BA in Accounting from the University of Southern California and an MBA in Marketing and Strategy from University of California, Los Angeles, and is a Certified Public Accountant for the State of California. We believe Lev’s valuable business and leadership experience, particularly in the e-commerce industry, combined with his intimate knowledge of our financial and operational status gained through his various roles at the company, qualifies Lev to serve as a Director.
Lev is married to Inna Trosman and they have three wonderful children. Lev met Inna when they were in high school and have been together since then.
Jim Barnes currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of enVista, LLC, a supply chain and unified commerce consulting firm, where he has served since he co-founded enVista in 2002. Prior to founding enVista, he was the Executive Vice President and co-founder of Q4 Logistics. He has spent the last 25 years deploying supply chain and enterprise solutions and synchronizing material and information flow for Fortune 500 brands and retail companies.
Jim holds a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Purdue University.
Joshua L. Berman has been a director since October 2007. Joshua co-founded and serves as President of BeachMint, a next generation eCommerce company focused on building brands and delivering a personalized user experience, since April 2010. Joshua served as President of Slingshot Labs, an incubator dedicated to building and developing new web ventures for News Corporation, from February 2008 through April 2010. Joshua was a co-founder of MySpace.com, a leading online lifestyle portal, and served as its Chief Operating Officer from January 2003 until April 2010. Prior to 2003, Joshua co-founded and managed two Internet companies: Response Base Marketing, where he held positions as the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer from 2001 through 2003, and Xdrive Technologies from 1999 through November 2001, where he served as Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President of Corporate Development. Joshua also worked from 1997 through 1999 as a management consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers and as an international marketing manager and senior financial analyst at Twentieth Century Fox.
Joshua was actively licensed as a certified public accountant from 1991 through 2002, and holds a B.A. degree in economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara and an M.B.A. from the University of Southern California. We believe that Mr. Berman is qualified to serve as a director due to his industry knowledge and operational experience with, and service as COO and President of internet companies, including internet marketing and social networking, combined with his strong accounting and financial background and management experience.
Jay K. Greyson was appointed Director on June 17, 2014. Jay currently serves as Co-Founder, Partner, Managing Director, and Principal of Supply Chain Equity Partners, a committed capital private equity fund dedicated exclusively to the distribution and supply chain industry. Jay also currently serves as Managing Director and Principal for Vetus Partners, an investment bank, and as Chief Compliance Officer of Vetus Securities, a registered broker dealer. Before co-founding Supply Chain Equity Partners, Jay established and led practice groups at Brown Gibbons Lang & Company, a regional investment banking firm. Over his career, Jay has held various operating company roles, including General Manager, National Sales Manager, Product Manager, and Marketing Manager, as well as having served on a number of boards.
Jay holds a B.S. degree from the University of Virginia and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago.
Sol Khazani is one of our Co-Founders and has been a Director since January 2001. Sol also served as our Chairman of the Board from January 2001 to March 2007, as our Chief Financial Officer from January 2001 to April 2005, and as a Vice President from October 1995 to January 2001. From 1995 through December 2008, Sol served as the Vice President of American Condenser, Inc., a company that he co-founded which manufactures air conditioning condensers for automotive and industrial applications. Sol also serves as Financial Director of the non-profit organization Women for World Health.
Sol holds a B.S. degree in Accounting and an M.B.A. from National University in San Diego. We believe Sol's extensive background in the auto parts and industrial manufacturing and distribution industries provides a valuable juxtaposition with many of our other directors' e-commerce experience. We also believe that his historical insight into our company's operations and strategic relationships, combined with his foresight and creativity in driving our growth from a small, local operation delivering parts to an international internet organization qualifies him to serve as a Director.
Nanxi Liu is the Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Enplug, a leading digital display software company used by Fortune 500 companies, and was named one of Forbes' 30 Under 30 and Fortune's 10 Most Promising Women Entrepreneurs. Nanxi also serves on the Board of Advisors for Covington Capital, which manages $3 billion, and is a Partner at XFactor Ventures, where she invests in women-founded startups. In 2019, Nanxi was appointed as one of five voting members to the California Department of Motor Vehicles' New Motor Vehicle Board.
Mr. Nia is one of our co-founders and previously served as our Chief Executive Officer and President and a director from 1995 until 2007 where he helped lead the growth and transformation of our company from a regional wholesaler of collision auto parts into an e-commerce retailer by the year 2000 and a wholesaler with a diversified base of auto products. Mr. Nia holds a B.A. degree in biology from San Diego State University. Mr. Nia also serves on the Board of Directors of Mylife.com, an e-commerce company with the mission of helping people find and connect with others and manage the information they choose to share with the world.
