Hi Dean, I am pleased to assist you. It can definitely be confusing since the MAP sensor and Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor both relate to air intake, but they are not the same.
* The MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor measures air pressure inside the intake manifold. It helps the engine computer calculate air density to determine fuel delivery.
* The MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor directly measures the amount (mass) of air entering the engine.
So your dealer is correct, it does not have a MAF sensor. The 2001 Honda Accord EX 4-cylinder (2.3L VTEC) uses a MAP sensor instead. Honda designed these engines to rely on manifold pressure and intake air temp (IAT) rather than direct mass airflow measurements.
