Question: my car will go into park, but it won’t let me pull the key out of the ignition and the gear shifter will bunch up causing it to be hard to switch from drive and reverse and so forth. wondering if this is the part i need?makenzie a. / Oct 12, 2020

Answered by Jeonino E. / Mon, Oct 12It's doubtful that this switch is the problem. Usually if the park neutral safety switch is bad the engine will not crank. No power to the starter.
More likely you have bad boo switch (brake on off). However that would not prevent you from removing the key if the shift lever is all the way into park.
The boo switch activates the shift interlock solenoid when you press on the brake and allows the shift lever to move out of park.
