Wrong part for a 1998 Camaro15 Gallons / 57 Liters, Galvanized Steel Fuel Tank
1.0/5
This part is manufactured incorrectly and has two problems. The fuel sending unit is held in by a different type of retaining ring than the factory. The filler tube has the wrong type of gas cap. The gas cap which is supplied with the tank will not work, it is the thread type used on 1997 and earlier Camaros. The factory gas cap will not work either. 1998 used a one year only gas cap, I an not certain what type of gas cap should be used with this part. There are no instructions included with the part to help guide through these issues. I ended up returning the part and reusing my existing gas tank after spending hours cleaning the inside.

Question: How do you install the fuel pump? It doesn't come with the studsArturo G. / Nov 23, 2020
Hi Arturo, This type of fuel pump uses a fuel tank strap for attachment, and they are sold separately.

I think the idea is to use the old type retainer ring. It will not attach like the original with studs and nuts. I was not able to make it work properly. Maybe you need to convert to the old style fuel pump from a 1997 Camaro/Firebird as well. This may also require modifying the steel return line to tee into the pressure line if you have an LS1 engine. Since ethanol fuel mixtures are very corrosive when the car sits for a while it is better to try and convert to a 1999 or later fuel tank. This will require a fuel pump, fuel lines and evap canister for a 1999-2002 Camaro or Firebird. This is the best solution I have found for a 1998 Camaro since they are one year only and all the used gas tanks appear to be corroded and/or loosing the interior coating. You can search online for instructions. Staff (Grace G.) wrote that fuel tank straps hold the tank in. While this is correct it did not answer your question about how to install the fuel pump into the top of the tank.

Question: Will this fit a 2000 Pontiac Firebird?Stan Kepanky / Feb 21, 2024
Hi Stan, thank you for reaching out! Upon checking, this will not fit. We do not have a fuel tank available for that model. Have a good one!
