With all the attention on the revived Ford Bronco and next-generation F-150, it’s not surprising for the public to forget other Ford models. But this wouldn’t be the case now as the automaker is reportedly cooking something new for the Expedition.

The latest generation of the full-size SUV was introduced in 2018 when Ford needed a model to go up against the Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon. And the Expedition delivered, amassing 90,000 orders in 2019 alone, which is equivalent to 70% of the total number of vehicles it sold in 2017 prior to the redesign.

Now, for the 2021 model year, the Blue Oval is making the model more competitive with a new setup. An STX Package will be added to the list of options available to customers in the next few months.

Photos of the all-new Ford Expedition STX are not yet available, but the Ford says it will feature a stylish five-bar chrome grille with secondary bars in a magnetic finish, matching 18-inch alloy wheels painted in Magnetic Metallic, an 8-inch infotainment screen with SYNC 3, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, as well as tri-zone automatic climate control.

The official pricing has yet to be confirmed, although a similar package for the 2021 Ford Ranger costs an additional $995 to the base price. It’s likely going to fall within the same range for the Expedition SUV.

But that’s not all there is to it for Expedition buyers, as Ford announced that it will also make the long-wheelbase Expedition MAX in all trim levels. This appeals specifically to customers looking for an extended-length SUV in a different price range and level of equipment.

The upcoming arrival of the Expedition STX is expected to spice up competition with other new-for-2021 vehicles such as the Chevrolet Tahoe, GMC Yukon, and Cadillac Escalade.
