Honda is giving the CR-V a new look and a hybrid version that promises higher mpg numbers for the upcoming model year.

Dubbed as the CR-V Compact SUV, which will soon reach U.S. shores, the hybrid version of the well-loved model will have the same powertrain as its corporate sibling, the Honda Accord, which boasts a naturally aspirated Atkinson-cycle 2.0-liter inline-four gas engine and two electric motors. The powertrain makes a combined output of 212 horsepower.

While the EPA ratings are not yet out for the model, it is estimated to have a combined rating of 48 mpg like the Accord’s. The automaker also claims that the hybrid CR-V has a 50% increase in EPA city fuel economy, putting it somewhere around 44 mpg city.

Aside from introducing a hybrid version, Honda is also giving CR-V non-hybrid models a new look, which includes a more daring grille, 18-inch wheels for the EX and EX-L trims, and 19-inch wheels for the Touring trim.

All-wheel-drive setup is standard for the hybrid made possible by a clutch that engages to send the electric motor’s torque to the rear wheels, especially when slip is detected.

The CR-V hybrid type is also getting unique badges, a blue Honda logo, a hidden exhaust pipe in the rear-end, and different fog lights and bumpers.

Aside from the introduction of a hybrid version, the company is also giving the non-hybrid models a new look. This includes a more daring grille, 18-inch wheels for the EX and EX-L trims, and 19-inch wheels for the Touring trim. Customers can also choose from three new colors: Radiant Red Metallic, Sonic Gray Pearl, and Aegean Blue Metallic.

The conventional SUV is also dropping the 2.4-liter engine, making the turbocharged 1.5-liter four- cylinder engine standard for all trims with 190 horsepower and 179 lb-ft of torque.

The Honda Sensing bundle is now made standard to all CR-V trim levels including the LX. The package includes adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, and lane-keep assist.

Official pricing is not yet available, but the gas-fueled 2020 Honda CR-V is scheduled to go on sale this fall while the hybrid types are set to arrive at dealerships sometime in the beginning of 2020.
