Earlier this year, Jeep shared a glimpse of the upcoming Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid at the Consumer Electronics Show 2020. But at the time, the automaker did not disclose any other details about the electrified SUV.

Just recently, Jeep shared a teaser video on the Wrangler 4xe PHEV, suggesting that something could be happening to the model soon. However, the automaker still has not divulged details regarding its battery, range, and charging to name a few.

With the release of the teaser video, there are rumors saying the electrified SUV could finally be making an official debut sometime this year, while there are hearsays claiming it could be launching in December.

Regardless when it’s going to arrive, a plug-in hybrid is a big deal for the Wrangler nameplate. This is especially the case now that Ford has been bathing in all the attention from the 2021 Bronco SUV that launched in July and is expected to arrive next year.

The release of the Wrangler 4xe will kick off other upcoming releases in Jeep’s plug-in hybrid lineup. The automaker is reportedly working on releasing an electrified option for every model it has on the market. These versions may either come with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system like the powertrain on the Wrangler eTorque or be fully electrified.

The Wrangler 4xe joins other Jeep models in the 4xe portfolio, namely the Renegade 4xe and the Compass 4xe. The two models were also unveiled at the CES 2020 and have since debuted. It remains to be seen if the powertrains on the two vehicles will also find their way to the United States.
