It’s technically no longer news as it has been a while since Kia was rumored to drop the Sedona name from its portfolio. But now, the change has been made official, and the model will formally be called the Carnival across all markets.
Online publication Motor Trend was first to report on the official name change, following the release of a listing on EPA’s fuel economy website.
In the listing, the Kia Carnival minivan is included as a 2022 model with fuel economy ratings of 19 miles per gallon (mpg) city, 26 mpg highway, and 22 mpg combined. It also confirms that the model will be equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 engine paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. This setup is a bit more powerful than the previous 3.3-liter V6 that returns 18 mpg city, 24 mpg highway, and 21 mpg combined.

Kia introduced a local version of the Carnival minivan in the summer of 2020, sporting a sharper look and borrowing styling cues from the brand’s crossovers. The model is expected to arrive in the US later this year, going head to head with the Chrysler Pacifica, Honda Odyssey, and Toyota Sienna, which have all recently gone through a major redesign.
The change in the Sedona’s official name in Kia’s portfolio is not the first time for the brand. In 2020, it also announced the transition of the midsize sedan Optima to what is now the K5.
While it wasn’t Kia that made the announcement, having it on the EPA website is as good as final.
The automaker has not released a statement on the name change at the moment, but the model’s sale date will proceed as scheduled.
