A recent report from Muscle Cars & Trucks claims that the new built-for-the-off-road Chevrolet Silverado ZRX pickup will be arriving for the 2022 model year.
The report, which cites “sources familiar with General Motors truck plans,” says that the upcoming truck model may be positioned a tier higher than the Colorado ZR2 within the company’s lineup of rugged pickups.
The Silverado ZRX is said to have an overhauled suspension using the Multimatic DSSV dampers similar to those installed on the Colorado ZR2. In addition, electronic-locking differentials placed in front and at the rear of the vehicle are also included to improve its off-road traction.

There will be no changes in the engine, as claimed by the report. The premium trim will likely have the 6.2-liter V8 that makes 420 horsepower, although it is also possible that GM will introduce a new powertrain by the time the ZRX officially arrives.
But all things considered, GM has not confirmed it is building a Silverado ZRX pickup. Reports that have surfaced are generally based on the company’s application for the ZRX moniker last August, which covers “motor land vehicles, namely, automobiles, sport utility vehicles, trucks, vans, engines and structural parts thereof.”
What’s making it confusing, though, is that Fox Racing Inc., a known supplier of off-road suspension components, also filed a trademark for ZRX a week after GM did. But Fox Racing’s application appears to be for “custom pickup trucks.”
These trademark applications suggest that Fox Racing could be working with GM in developing the ZRX despite the former also acting as a supplier of suspension components for Ford’s F-150 Raptor and Toyota’s TRD Pro models.
