Summary
  • DTC P2715 stands for “Pressure Control Solenoid “D” Stuck On.” It’s logged when the PCM doesn’t get proper responses from the transmission pressure control solenoids.
  • Bad pressure control solenoids, contaminated transmission fluid, or blocked transmission filters are some of the issues that could trigger this trouble code.
  • Some of the symptoms of code P2715 include a lit check engine light, limp mode, and an overheated transmission system.

Clutch pressure control solenoids regulate the hydraulic pressure exerted by transmission fluid. When the transmission control module (TCM) or powertrain control module (PCM) wants the transmission to shift to a new gear, it activates the solenoid associated with that gear. The pressure control solenoid applies the right clutch pack to engage the selected gear.

If the PCM or TCM detects a problem with the transmission pressure control solenoid, it will log a P2715 code.

What Does the P2715 Code Mean?

The diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P2715 indicates “Pressure Control Solenoid “D” Stuck On.” It applies to any vehicle with an automatic transmission that has multiple pressure control solenoids.

P2715 code applies to any vehicle with an automatic transmission that has multiple pressure control solenoids.

The pressure control solenoids are labeled “A”, “B”, and so on. Solenoid “D” is the fourth one in the transmission.

When hydraulic fluid flows through one of these solenoids, it is in the “on” position. After getting the vehicle’s speed from dedicated sensors, the TCM or PCM will activate the appropriate pressure control solenoid.

The PCM regularly checks the state of the transmission pressure control solenoids. If the computer doesn’t get the right response, it will set the generic powertrain code P2715.

Note: The definition of code P2715 can differ according to the vehicle manufacturer. Check the appropriate repair manual or repair database for the exact code definition.

How to Diagnose the P2715 Code

The P2715 code is a generic powertrain code. While various makes and models can log it, the root cause of the code can vary between vehicles. There isn’t a single solution to every case of P2715.

If you’re not confident about conducting diagnostic tests on your vehicle, it’s a good idea to bring it to a certified mechanic. Otherwise, you can go ahead and diagnose the issue yourself. To help you get started, here is a video that can give you an idea of what the process might involve:
