Hi James, I'm glad to assist you. Yes, it is pre-filled with a certain amount of oil. But manufacturers recommend that you drain the "shipping oil" and refill with the "proper PAG oil" ahead of installation and loading of the refrigerant to the a/c system. The other purpose of the added oil is to protect the compressor during its stay on the dealer's shelves, retailers' stores, and in the course of transport.
