Hi Glenn, I'm glad to help you out. The gasket should be enough. You can apply a thin layer of grease. I've never used a sealant on my EGR valve. Best to make sure both surfaces are clean before you put the gasket. I hope this helps. Answered by Grace G. / Sat, May 22No need to put any sealer on the gasket.. But I put very thin layer of grease (any grease) on the gasket so when I need to take out the egr later (i.e., couple of years later) the gasket doesn't get stuck and doesn't not tear. Otherwise some times half of the gasket sticks to the wall of the engine and another half to egr and it gets ripped off, and then you have to scrape it off to remove it
