How to Replace a Banjo Bolt in a Brake System
A banjo bolt is a specialized type of bolt that has a hole in the middle. The bolt's hollow design allows the flow of fluid through it, which makes it perfect for hydraulic systems. The automotive brake system, in particular, makes good use of banjo bolts. In the said system, a banjo bolt is used to connect a brake caliper to a brake line. Every time you step on the brake pedal, brake fluid is able to go from the brake line to the caliper by passing through the banjo bolt. If the brake system's banjo bolt is loose and worn-out, brake fluid leaks may occur. That means that you'd have to replace the banjo bolt.
There's no need to worry, replacing the bolt can be done without much difficulty. In fact, it'd only take you several minutes. Follow the instructions below on how to do it properly.

- Lug wrench
- Jack stand
Step 1: Park your vehicle on a level surface.
Step 2: Go to the wheel that covers the problematic banjo bolt. Grab your lug wrench and loosen that particular wheel's retaining nuts.
Step 3: Use a jack to lift your vehicle. Once it has been raised properly, place a jack stand underneath the lifted part. Remove the loosened nuts and pull the wheel off afterwards.
Step 4: You should now be able to access the banjo bolt. It's located on the side of the brake line, on top of the brake caliper. Grab a socket and position it on the head of the banjo bolt. Place your other hand on the brake line and hold it steady. Now, use the socket to turn the bolt counterclockwise. Be careful in doing so though, don't rush it. Again, make sure that you hold on to the brake line until the bolt is off, otherwise, the brake line may get damaged.
Step 5: You can install the new banjo bolt once the old one has been taken out. Start by mounting the washer over the new bolt. After that, insert the bolt into the banjo fitting that's at the tip of the brake line.
Step 6: Install another washer on the banjo bolt. Connect the bolt to the brake caliper afterwards. Make sure that the bolt fits perfectly between the brake line and the caliper.
Step 7: Finish the job by tightening the banjo bolt and putting back everything that you took out earlier.
