A total of 28,884 Jeep Grand Cherokee units from the 2014 to 2019 model years equipped with the 3.0-liter EcoDiesel engine are being recalled in the United States, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles announced.
The recall, according to the automaker, was due to the potential of the SUV’s exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) cooler to crack and result in a fire due to “thermal fatigue.” Based on documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the issue could create a vaporized coolant that may enter the intake manifold.
FCA clarified that it is unaware of any reports of injuries or accidents that may be related to the recall. The automaker also announced the problem can be fixed by replacing the EGR cooler with one that is not susceptible to cracking.
Owners of Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles affected by the recall can expect to receive notifications from FCA beginning December 31.
