FAQs—Chevrolet Corvair Truck
How do I prevent my transmission from failing?
Proper maintenance is key to a long- lasting transmission. To start with, you should make sure that your transmission fluid is always a right level. It is best to check the level of the transmission fluid when the transmission has warmed up. If you find that you have too much or too little transmission fluid, you should fix it immediately, otherwise you are putting your transmission at a higher risk of failing. To check the level of transmission fluid, you can use the dipstick in your truck. The color of the transmission fluid should also be checked from time to time. Normally, the transmission fluid is pink in color. If it has turned to a color other than that, it is time to replace it. And if you have leaks in the transmission, you should have it fixed immediately to prevent the transmission from losing precious transmission fluid and eventually a constantly overheating transmission.
I often hear a knocking noise coming from my engine. What could it be?
If you often hear a knocking noise coming from the engine, especially when you are towing a heavy load or if you are driving at a high speed, it only means one thing. Your engine is not being able to burn fuel as properly as it is supposed to. What you are hearing is actually the explosion of fuel in the combustion chamber. Normally, the engine is supposed to be burning fuel smoothly and not blowing up erratically. If the fuel keeps on blowing up, it means that there is too much compression and heat in the combustion chamber. These explosions are actually quite dangerous for the engine as it can cause the engine some serious and expensive damage. What's causing the explosion can be because of too much carbon build-up inside the combustion chamber. To address this kind of problem, you are going to have to clean the engine with a high quality cleaning solution. You can also add a fuel additive that can be able to remove the carbon build-up in the combustion chamber. If that does not fix the problem, you can have a professional mechanic clean it for you.
I'm afraid that the old engine of my Corvair truck will keep on overheating. How do I prevent that from happening?
Constant overheating of the engine can have adverse effects on your engine. If it constantly happens, your engine will eventually fail because of it. and of your engine gets damaged, it can cost you an arm. And if you are really unlucky, you might have to look for a new engine as replacement. If you do not want that to happen to you, you should know proper engine maintenance. You might think that it is hard to do but it is actually quite easy. First things first, you just have to ensure that your engine is always kept cool by a properly working cooling system. Different components make up the cooling system and that includes the radiator, radiator hoses, cooling fan, pump, and coolant reservoir. All these components should be kept in excellent working condition. You should also maintain the right level of coolant, as well as engine oil, to prevent the engine from overheating.
