DIY Steps You Can Follow in Replacing Your Vehicle’s Fan Clutch Bearing Bracket
A fan clutch bearing bracket may look like a simple and insignificant component, but it actually helps keep the engine from overheating. This component basically ensures that the fan clutch bearing of your vehicle is securely held in position without the risk of colliding into the other car parts that are inside the engine compartment. Step 1: Park your car on a well-ventilated area. Since you'll be dealing with the cooling system of your vehicle, you have to make sure that you let the engine cool down for a few minutes. This is an important part of the replacement process because the hot coolant from your car's engine may cause serious burns.
Step 2: Lift up the hood and disconnect the negative cable from the battery to further ensure your safety.
Step 3: Drain the all the contents of the cooling system into your drain pan. Expect this step to be a little messy, so keep your clean rags within arm's reach.
Step 4: To access the fan clutch bearing bracket without any problems, you have to remove all the components that are in the way. Begin by removing the air intake and engine cover.
Step 5: Remove the fan clutch from the engine compartment by unfastening the nuts that are used to secure it in place. You need to use a wrench for this procedure. Make sure you place the nuts on a neat and organized area to keep them from getting lost.
Step 6: After you got the fan clutch out of the way, you should take the drive belt off next. Using the right size of socket, twist the belt tensioner in a counterclockwise direction until you can slide the drive belt off. Remove the drive belt by hand and set it aside.
Step 7: Disconnect the coolant hose by loosening the clamp that's attaching it to the thermostat housing. You should remove the radiator, spark plug wires, and drive belt idler pulley as well.
Step 8: Remove the distributor caps and rotors before detaching the distributor housings from the vehicle. Some of the other components that you also need to remove include the alternator connector, timing belt, and crankshaft pulley. Uninstalling these components from your car may get really tricky, so make sure you have your owner's manual and basic hand tools with you.
Step 9: Now that you've successfully gotten all the other components out of the way, you should now be able to access the fan clutch bearing bracket. Remove the bolts and nuts that are used to secure it. Slowly pull it off the assembly and install the replacement fan clutch bearing bracket in its place.
Step 10: Reinstall all the engine components that you removed. Make sure that you torque all nuts and bolts according to the manufacturer's specification.
