Ford Maverick Guides

You don't want to be that old dude with the bad knee and lame fashion sense by the time you're 40, right? Of course, you want to be that cool 40-year old who still works out and looks good. Keep in mind that age is just a number, and this applies not just to people but to cars as well. A clear example of this is the Ford Maverick, which is one old-timer that has still got game. The Maverick was sold between 1970 and 1977 and was one of those classic vehicles. This compact car was made available as either a 2-door sedan or a 4-door sedan, both of being surefire head-turners. It featured a long hood, fastback roof, and short deck, giving it a stylish and iconic look. Loved also for providing a smooth and reliable ride, this Ford enjoyed plenty of success back in its heyday.

You'll still see some great-looking Mavericks rolling down the highway even today, but keeping such a ride in tip-top shape requires some consistent TLC. That means you'll have to replace busted auto components as soon as they show wear or damage. Car parts like the tires, fuel filters, batteries and other components often require replacements in order to maintain a vehicle's performance. Fortunately for you, it's pretty easy to get new Ford Maverick parts online.

With the Ford Maverick, some common complaints include engine stalling and start-up problems. These issues are typically caused by faulty engine and ignition components, keeping your ride from performing like a charm. Luckily, you can swap out these substandard parts with OEM or aftermarket products that are sure to improve your ride's overall performance. Just because your Ford has some miles on it, that doesn't mean it can't look and perform like brand new even today. So buy your Ford Maverick the parts it needs right now and give it the boost that it deserves.

FAQs—Ford Maverick

My Ford Maverick started juddering each time I hit neutral gear. I keep on hearing a dull, clunking sound. Is this a sign that there is a problem with the gearbox?

There is no way in telling how a vehicle will sound when there is a transmission problem. The fact that you are hearing something unusual when you shift to neutral gear is definitely a sign that something might be wrong, and it's always best to seek the diagnosis of a car expert. Fortunately, a noisy transmission in neutral would usually require a simple and affordable solutionchanging or replacing the transmission fluid. The fluid might be running low in the reservoir or its quality may already be bad. The transmission fluid is clear and has a distinct reddish hue. If the fluid seems to be grayish and has bits of chrome and dirt, then it means it has already oxidized and must be replaced as soon as possible. Another possible cause is that some parts may be already worn out. Inspect the wheel bearings, the gear teeth, or the idler gear. Seek the help of an expert to verify the cause and to know what parts should be replaced.

My Ford Maverick produces too much smoke during startup. Is this normal?

It is normal for any vehicle to emit any amount of exhaust emission. Sometimes, larger amounts will be emitted, especially if you start your car on a cold day. The clouds of smoke may be due to the condensation that occurs in cooler temperatures. If cold weather is not a culprit and you observe that the amount of exhaust smoke is beyond the usual, then it might be due to other problems. Excessive smoke may indicate a fuel economy problem. Your vehicle is burning too much oil too soon. Other causes might be mechanical. Check the catalytic converter, the engine valve seals, and the PCV. Also, the color of the smoke will give you an idea. White smoke is usually a sign of an internal coolant leak. Grey smoke usually indicates worn engine valves or piston rings. Black smoke looks scary. It may point out to fuel or ignition problems or maybe just a dirty air filter. There are instances that the exhaust may emit a bluish smoke. A blue smoke is a sign of damaged engine rings, O-seals, and gaskets. If you have checked all possible causes and the amount of smoke still increases, take your Ford Maverick to a mechanic for some expert attention.

Two days ago, my Ford Maverick stopped while I was trying to park. I was able to restart it, and it ran again although with a few tries. Today, my car won't start at all. When I turn the key, the engine still cranks but would not run. What do I do?

All vehicles require three things in order to start: spark, fuel, and compression. Therefore, when a vehicle cranks but would not start, one or more of these three requirements might not be properly working. To check whether it is a spark, fuel, or compression problem, then there's a little test that you can do. Remove a plug wire, then get a Philips screwdriver or a spare plug piece of bare wire. Place the end near the engine plug. Use rubber gloves and do not do this while cranking the car, otherwise you can get an electrical shock. Once this is in place, crank the engine and see if there is a spark. If a spark is produced, then the problem does not lie in the ignition rather it may be in the fuel pump or compressor. Check the timing for any damage or misalignment. If the timing belt is okay, then the fuel pump might be the problem. Check if the fuel pump makes a guzzling noise while the ignition is turned on. If it does not make a sound, then that means the fuel pump is malfunctioning. It is best if you take your car to the mechanic who could tell what causes the malfunction and what has to be replaced.
