Fuel Tank, 16 Gallons / 61 Liters

Perfect fit
Great tank everything works well, as stated in the "cons" section the fitment for the filler neck and the sending unit was a lot tighter than the original tank. Helpful hint when installing bend the tabs up a little bit on the opening so that you can turn the ring that holds the sending unit down. The filler neck was quite a pain to get back on this tank as well. I haven't been able to pump gas at full capacity so it took forever to fill. The only thing that was honestly disappointing about the tank was the fact that it didn't have a drain plug like the original but for the price if the tank goes bad again I'll just replace the whole thing. Hope this is helpful.

Honda, known as the second-largest Japanese car manufacturer, has been a force in the American market since it introduced the American-spec Civic in 1969. Over 20 million units of the Honda Accord and Civic have been sold in the country alone. It was also the first Japanese automaker to debut a dedicated luxury brand in 1986 which is Acura. Currently, Honda is offering 10 models in the market, including electric, hybrid, and fuel cell models.

Honda remains to be the number two Japanese car manufacturer in the country, thanks to two of its best-selling models Accord and Civic. As sales grow on a year-on-year basis, more people are in need of quality replacement parts. Among the parts sought by Honda owners is the fuel tank.

Who manufactures OEM Honda parts?

Honda reportedly purchased $29.3 billion worth of parts and materials in recent years. In total, there are 607 OEM suppliers under Honda in America located in 32 states. These OEM manufacturers make parts for 16 Honda plants in North America. Two of which are Kasai North America and NK Parts. In 2017, Honda’s US supplier base has more than doubled since 1993.

OEM vs. OE Honda replacement fuel tanks

If you’ve been purchasing replacement parts in the market, you probably have stumbled upon the terms OEM parts and OE replacements. No need to be confused, here’s the difference between the two.

Original Equipment Manufacturer or OEM parts - These are the parts that are manufactured by the official part manufacturers under the Honda conglomerate. OEM parts sold at Honda dealerships are labeled with the Honda brand and not the parts manufacturer’s brand. They are, however, sold in the market as OEM replacements by their respective brands bearing corresponding brand labels.

Original Equipment (OE) replacement parts - OE replacements, on the other hand, are parts manufactured by third-party manufacturers that have studied the OEM part to be reproduced. OE replacement fuel tanks have the same standards as with OEM fuel tanks.

Honda OE Honda replacement fuel tanks

OE replacement Honda gas tanks are made to look, function, and last like OEM or genuine Honda fuel tanks. OE replacement parts are manufactured based on their actual OEM counterparts. Manufacturers study OEM parts and improve any imperfections in the process. This results in a comparable, if not better, quality when put side-by-side with the genuine part. And since there are tons of OE replacement part manufacturers in the market as well as a large number of supplies, you may find OE replacement Honda fuel tanks at way cheaper price tags.

Are Honda OE replacement fuel tanks as good as OEM?

The answer is simple—aftermarket fuel tanks have the same quality compared to OEM fuel tanks. This quality is achieved by reverse-engineering the genuine part and even improve the quality by identifying the weaknesses of the part.

Closer Look at Honda Fuel Tank

The Honda fuel tank is located in the undercarriage of the vehicle, under the trunk area. Because of the location, most models of the Honda fuel tank are treated for corrosion resistance, which protects them from the elements, keeping it dependably performing its function in the vehicle for many long miles. However, the Honda fuel tank, in its position, is vulnerable to moisture and road salt splashed up from the road, as well as rocks and road debris. The daily assault of the elements and road hazards take their toll over time, wearing on the corrosion resistant coating, causing dents and scratches that are helped along by the moisture and road salt, allowing corrosion to begin on the surface of the Honda fuel tank. As time passes, these areas of corrosion can develop into small holes in the surface of the Honda fuel tank, allowing fuel to seep through, and moisture to seep into the tank. Another common source of leakage in the Honda fuel tank is wear at the point where the metal mounting straps contact the surface of the tank, as the road vibration and bumps cause the straps to rub against it. This too leaves areas that can become vulnerable to corrosion, and eventually cause leaks that can become a hazard for fire or explosion if the fuel comes in contact with hot exhaust system parts as it drips. If time and rough roads have done their damage to the Honda fuel tank in your vehicle, we have a selection of quality replacements in our online catalog at great prices. Ordering is always safe and easy on our secure site, and our toll-free phone line can process your Honda fuel tank order quickly and conveniently as well.
