Grille Trim Customer Reviews

Grille Trim - Textured Black
Mar 09, 2020
Good but fits too loose. Fixed it though.
The trim looks just like original but it fit too loose. It actually flew off my truck while driving down the road. I recovered it but then I used a heat gun to heat up the tabs and slightly bent them so it clipped on to the grill more securely. After doing that it is now attached better and shouldn’t come off.

There are some vehicles that are customized in a way that echoes the style of the person that owns it. While not everyone can afford a full custom job for their vehicle, there are simple ways you can add a personal touch to your car without breaking the bank. One quick and easy option is to add a grille trim piece to your vehicle.

What is a grille trim?

Grille trim is a decorative accessory that attaches to your car’s grille. It is commonly installed around the grille frame or on top of the grille mesh and bars. These trims typically have a snap-on installation or they can be attached to your car using adhesives. Grille trims allow you to customize the look of your vehicle without the need for costly and time-consuming work at the shop.

What is a grille trim for?

Decorative grille trims are mainly for improving a car’s aesthetic. However, it may also help in providing additional protection to your vehicle’s grille assembly. Trims and skins that cover the frame, molding, bar, or mesh of your grille prevent damage by acting as a protective cover of the grille components. By adding this layer, the trim will be the first to get damaged by road debris like rocks.

Types of grille trims

There is a wide variety of grille trims available for car owners looking to spruce up their car. Depending on its placement, trims can be categorized as an upper or lower grille trim. These accessories are typically made from chrome, stainless steel, or thermoplastics.

Chrome

Give your daily driver an upgrade by adding chrome trim on your front grille. Unlike the black matte plastics that come with lower variant vehicles, polished chrome adds extra shine when light hits your vehicle. Adding chrome is also a way to make any car look classier.

Stainless steel

If you’re looking for a more durable version of chrome,  stainless steel trims are your best bet. Stainless steel is known to be highly resistant to scratches, corrosion, and tarnishing. Adding stainless steel trim over your grille can help in preventing any dings and dents on the frame itself.

Thermoplastics

Thanks to modern science, plastics used in cars have become more durable than ever. You can choose to install plastic grille trim on your vehicle without worrying about warping or cracking. Thermoplastics are specifically designed to resist heat, impact, and chemical damage.

Along with its durability, these trims help you add interest to your car’s grille without adding extra weight. These also come in different colors and finishes so you can get the unique look you’re going for.

How much is a grille trim?

The cost of grille trims varies depending on your car’s year, model and make. OEM replacement parts typically cost anywhere between $20 and $2,500. Grille trims are available for sale individually, in sets of 2 to 8, or as part of a complete grille assembly kit.

Grille trims are quite easy to install. Even a novice will have no problems with its installation. If you’re looking for a quick and enjoyable weekend project, adding trim to your car’s grille may just be the thing for you.

Why should you get a grille trim?

Experimenting with your vehicle’s grille trim is a cost-effective way to add some flair to your vehicle without committing to a costly and permanent modification. You’ll be surprised at how big a difference switching trim colors or finishes can improve your vehicle’s overall look.

Finding the Right Grille Trim to Further Modify Your Car

If your car grilles are the windows to your vehicle's soul, then your grille trims are your eyelashes. Though they might seem useless at first glance, they can add more animation to your grilles. In order to know which one is perfect for your ride, take time to consider the different types of trims and what they do to the overall look of your car.

Stainless steel grille trims

If you're looking for a grille trim with a longer-lasting look, then installing one made out of stainless steel would be a good choice. It offers better resistance against rust, and it is more durable than most materials, especially against humidity. Aside from giving your car's grille a longer life, stainless steel grille trims can also give you a shinier ride. Its metallic finish gives off a pimped out vibe that give stock grilles a major style overhaul.

Aluminum grille trims

Aluminum grille trims are known for being lightweight. So if you want to reduce your car's overall weight for racing applications, installing aluminum-type trims can give you the extra lift you need when you're on the track. Many car enthusiasts also choose aluminum when it comes to customizing their car's grilles. Aluminum grille trims have a polished look that gives your car a simple style upgrade. These trims also give you more freedom in modifying your car. Whether you want to put a black finish for understated style or you wish to paint them with colorful acrylics, aluminum grille trims offer the most flexibility when it comes to customizing your car grilles.

ABS composite grille trims

Replacing your grille trims doesn't have to be costly. While stainless steel or aluminum grille trims are an impressive addition to the front of your ride, purchasing them can be quite expensive. So if you want to upgrade your grilles with inexpensive trims, ABS composite is the way to go. It features ABS construction with a chrome-plated finish to give you the same sleek look as other grille trim materials.

Installing a New Grille Trim for a Sleek Ride

Installing a grille trim on your car is more straightforward as compared to other installation jobs. It is as easy as snapping clips, tabs, and grilles together. You can also save a lot of money by replacing your car's trims yourself. So if you're still learning the ins and outs of DIY auto detailing, then it's best to start with installing a grille trim.

Difficulty level: Easy to moderate

Tools you'll need:

  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Wrench set
  • Socket set
  • Grille trim replacement

Steps:

  1. Park your car in a flat area or in your garage and set it to brake. Open your hood to get an easier access of your grilles and grille trim.
  2. Different cars have different types of mounting. So before starting your installation, inspect your grilles and get a good look at how it is attached to your vehicle.
  3. Begin the installation by removing the screws that attaches your trims to the grille opening. Some grille trims are snapped on to your car's body. If this is the case, simply pry the trim off.
  4. Undo additional fasteners that might connect your grille trims to your grille assembly. As mentioned in step 2, your mounting points will depend on your car. But generally, most car grilles and grille trims are held in place using bolts. Gently remove the bolts on both the center and lower opening of your grilles. For the bolts found at the bottom, you will need to use a deep-well socket to reach them more effectively.
  5. Once you've removed all the fasteners, pull out your grille trims to free it from the front of your car.
  6. Install your new grille trims in place. Follow steps 1 to 4 in reverse order to refasten your trims and the entire grille assembly.
  7. Make sure everything is securely fastened and your grille trims are a perfect fit to your car. There shouldn't be any big gaps between your trims and your front assembly. When everything looks okay, close the hood of your car and start parading your new grille trims on the street.
