Mitsubishi Mirage Guides

To provide quality cars for those uncompromising souls who seek a very rare driving experience in today's world - that's the goal of Mitsubishi. Every single vehicle that rolls out in Mitsubishi's assembly plant is proven to have been built with a perfect combination of powerful performance, brilliant design and unmatched durability. Built to make a big difference, Mitsubishi cars will definitely give you a unique feel from the very moment you turn on the key. The built-in confidence employed in every Mitsubishi car guaranteed to last for many years and even for thousand of miles.

Mirage is Mitsubishi's entry-level compact joining the very crowded class in the market. Mirage is known to be a slow-selling model in Mitsubishi's car line up. That's the reason why it has been a subject for redesigning since 1997. Though they have different dimensions, Mitsubishi coupe and sedan share some body parts. The Mirage coupe rode in a 95-inch wheelbase and it has an overall length of 168 inches and the Mirage sedan that measures 173.6 inches long is built in a 98.4-inch wheelbase.

In 2000 model year, the antilock brakes were removed and the DE models significantly gain some standard features such as intermittent wipers, tilt steering column, remote mirror controls, digital clock, a driver's seat height adjuster and a trunk lamp. The LS models received cruise control and power windows, mirrors and locks. A 60/40 folding rear seatback comes standard on LS models and they are offered as an enticing option for the DE models.

Talking about the power source, DE models received a 1.5-liter, 4-cylinder engine generating 92 horsepower while LS models are powered by a 1.8-liter four, producing 113 horsepower. Mirage' standard transmission is a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic is offered as an option.

No one can tell if Mitsubishi Mirage can continue to exist in the U.S automotive industry. But one thing is for sure; as long as there are Mitsubishi Mirage on the road, the availability of Mitsubishi Mirage parts will never die away. The industry has ample amount of Mitsubishi Mirage auto body parts for various Mitsubishi Mirage models. Whether you need Mitsubishi Mirage repair parts, Mitsubishi Mirage performance parts, Mitsubishi Mirage restoration parts, Mitsubishi Mirage classic parts, Mitsubishi Mirage aftermarket parts or Mitsubishi Mirage used parts, the industry has it all for you!

Should you wish for a performance boost, why not get Mitsubishi Mirage performance parts from your auto-part dealer? But if you need a low-priced auto parts, you can prefer used Mitsubishi Mirage parts. It is now the right time to bring your Mitsubishi Mirage back to its original shape and condition. Replace its dated and worn parts with authentic Mitsubishi Mirage auto parts.

FAQs—Mitsubishi Mirage

Why is the Mitsubishi Mirage often maligned and underestimated? What do people like best about the Mitsubishi Mirage?

The Mitsubishi Mirage first emerged in 1978 as a subcompact hatchback. After taking a brief hiatus from 2004 to 2012, the Mirage made a comeback with a vengeance as a five-door hatchback, making it an outright option for consumers looking for a small, affordable and very fuel efficient lightweight car to make commuting tolerable.

Many consumers did not take a liking to the 1.2-liter, 74-hp three-cylinder engine. It wasn't particularly smooth at idle and noisy when accelerating. Its performance felt like 20 years behind today's standards. Its variable transmission occasionally clunked into gear when driving off from a stoplight. The ride and cornering was too soft because the suspension system needed stiffening. Although the gas mileage was decent, the Mirage took all the fun out of driving because of its attempts to be a "cheap" ride.

On the brighter side, the Mitsubishi Mirage received the 2012-2013 Car of the Year award from the Car Awards Group in the Philippines. It has also been named one of Forbes magazine's 12 Greenest Cars of 2014.

Why does my Mitsubishi Mirage's mirage often fail to start?

A no start condition may be caused by a malfunction in the internal distributor. Experts advise that replacement of the distributor may be necessary to correct this condition. The purpose of the ignition distributor is it directs high voltage sparks from the ignition coil to the individual spark plugs. A distributor may also contain the ignition module and camshaft position sensor.

I'm having trouble shifting gears in my manual Mitsubishi Mirage. What could be the cause of this?

When the manual transmission becomes difficult to shift, a common cause is the binding between the synchronizer and the gear surface. Adding a special friction modifier to the manual transmission fluid will often correct this condition. If the problem persists, try using revised synchronizer kits.

I'm worried because my airbag deployed accidentally. Is this something I should be worried about? My car stalls intermittently. Any ideas why this is happening?

Yes, you should be worried. A number of cases have been reported of unexpected airbag deployment. To help ensure proper operation of the airbag system, each incident of airbag warning light illumination should be investigated thoroughly, and repairs be made as needed.

Intermittent engine stalling could be caused by a faulty engine control module (ECM). Experts recommend the failed ECM be replaced. The power train or engine control module (ECM)is a computer that manages the engine's ignition, fuel injection, and emission systems. In other vehicles, it could control the operation of the automatic transmission and the anti-lock brake system.

Other symptoms of ECM failure include Check Engine Light illuminates with codes that cannot be repaired, vehicle may not start or run, engine performs poorly or stalls while driving.

The vehicle's front door hinges look like they're getting worn fast.

The vehicle's front door hinges may sometimes fail causing the affected door to become difficult to open and close. If this occurs, your only recourse will be replacement of the faulty hinges.

Mitsubishi Mirage: Inspiring a New Breed of Subcompacts Through Performance and Style

In 1978, Mitsubishi launched a new vehicle line to boost its sales in the subcompact division—the Mirage. Although it was sold under different names, the Mirage still managed to inspire many car owners and automobile manufacturers through its various innovations in style and performance.

1978-1983: First generation

From 1978 to 1983, Mitsubishi manufactured the first generation of the Mirage. It was the first Mitsubishi vehicle line to be equipped with the Super Shift—a four-speed manual transmission that had an additional lever that allowed the vehicle to switch between low and high ranges. In 1982, the first generation was redesigned with flusher-fitting headlights and a redesigned grille insert.

1983-1987: Second generation

In 1983, the second generation of the Mirage was released. From the 1.4- and 1.2-L Orion engines, this generation of Mirages became powered by 1.5- and 1.3-L units. But for those who want better engine options, Mitsubishi released some Mirages that were powered by 1.8- and 1.6-liter Sirius engines. Unfortunately, the United States did not sell the Mirage line until 1985, therefore making the second generation models the first Mirages to be sold in the said country.

1987-1991: Third generation

The third generation of Mirages was released by Mitsubishi in 1987. The three-door hatchback trim level, which was released that year, received a larger glasshouse and a more upright tailgate. On the other hand, the sedan version, which was released the following year, was redesigned to have a rear glass that was almost vertical.

1991-1995: Fourth generation

Mitsubishi introduced the fourth generation of the Mirage line in 1991. It was known for its much rounder and sportier body style and elliptical headlamps. What's more, the fourth generation line was made available with a gasoline-powered V6 engine with a displacement of 1.6 liters. Unfortunately, in 1994, the Mirage sedans were discontinued. Nonetheless, the S and LS trims of the coupe version remained, and they started to be equipped with covered center consoles and passenger side airbags in 1995.

1995-2003: Fifth generation

In 1995, the fifth generation of the Mitsubishi Mirage was released. It was sold as a two-door coupe, three-door sedan, and three-door hatchback. For the 1997 model year, the DE and LS trim levels of the fifth generation Mirages were released in the U.S, and they were powered by 1.8- and 1.5-liter 4G15 engines. Unfortunately, even though the coupe models continued to be sold in North America, the sedan models were eventually discontinued and replaced by the Lancer in other countries in 2002.

2012: Sixth generation

After being discontinued in 2002 when it was renamed as the Colt, the Mirage was once again introduced in the 2011 Tokyo Auto Show. In Japan, the reintroduced Mirage is powered by a 1.0 liter, 3-cylinder engine that is coupled to a CVT transmission. However, although it is already available in Japan and Thailand, this vehicle will only be available in other countries such as Australia starting 2013.
