Molding Clip: How to Replace It
The different fasteners in your vehicle may be underestimated, when in fact they must not be! Just think of the vehicle parts that will suffer if there are no fasteners that can attach them properly. A good example of this is the molding clip. Moldings are found in different areas of your vehicle, which seals the gaps in the areas that they cover. - Trim removal tool
- Petroleum grease
- Gasket tool
- New molding clip
Step 1: Park your vehicle in an area with enough illumination. Also, make sure that the engine of your vehicle is turned off before starting.
Step 2: Locate the area of your vehicle in which the molding clip that you want to remove is located. Some of the common parts include the windshield and the windows.
Step 3: In order to remove the molding clip from the trim of the windshield or window of your vehicle, you must have a trim removal tool. Simply insert the hooked end of the trim removal tool in the middle of the molding clip and the trim itself.
Step 4: Once the molding clip is loosened up, you can remove and pull it out of its gasket. Do this from one end to another.
Step 5: You can remove the whole molding strip afterwards. This is because you cannot install your new molding clip unless the old molding strip is taken off. Do this by simply pulling the molding until the whole strip is lifted away from the mounting area.
Step 6: Before you install your new molding clip, lubricate the rubber gasket with some petroleum grease. This is the same gasket where the old molding clip is placed earlier.
Step 7: Reattach the new molding strip first before your new molding clip because the latter will serve as the strip's fastener. Start attaching from the bottom center of the window or windshield, and then make sure that all the edges are covered evenly as well.
Step 8: The new molding strip can be secured on the rubber gasket of the window or windshield with the help of a gasket tool with a plastic edge. This tool can enable the molding strip to be attached into the gaps between the gasket and the mounting area properly.
Step 9: Once the molding strip is placed securely, you may now install your new molding clip. To do this, simply slide each end of the clip onto the strip.
Step 10: Make sure that you apply gentle pressure while doing this so that your new molding clip will be attached firmly into the rubber gasket. You can use the gasket tool once again for this matter to press the new molding clip deeply.
Step 11: Let the new molding clip stick on its mounting area for several minutes before turning on the engine to test its efficiency.
