It is working fine

Part arrived promptly and it works. Only issue is that since it is a "universal" regulator, it is not a "perfect" fit. Consequently, I tries to roll up the window further that what is allowed. When the window reaches its limit, the regulator thinks it is being blocked, so automatically rolls down to half open. One has to time closing the window so that one stops, right as it reaches the all the way up position. The price was right ($17), and since it is a rear window on a 2008 model, it's not a big deal. But BMW part would probably work better, but the price would be a lot more.

How to Easily Troubleshoot BMW 325i Window Regulator Problems

You have just been promoted at work, and today marks your first day as a boss. To make this day extra special, you put on your best corporate wear while you practice delivering your first executive speech. Nothing else can complete the package other than a compact luxury car that will bring you to your office-a BMW 325i, to be more specific. And so you excitedly drive downtown to meet your new officemates and your brand new swivel chair. During the ride, you decide to roll down the windows to savor the warmth and novelty of the day. Press you did on your BMW 325i window regulator whennothing happens-your car window did not lower even a tenth of an inch. Nasty, isn't it? Don't let such glitches ruin your day. Read more and learn some basic steps you can do to easily troubleshoot BMW 325i window regulator problems.

Stuck windows

Although your BMW 325i window system is primarily composed of gears and an electric motor, the main controller of the whole assembly is still the regulator. So if you're stuck with jammed windows, the first thing that you should do is check your BMW 325i window regulator. You can detach the clips that secure the window assembly to your car's door so that you can have a thorough look at the possible defects of your regulator. A broken regulator requires immediate replacement.

Loose wirings

If you see some loose thin steel wire just about your BMW 325i window regulator, consider replacing the component right away. Loose wirings may result from hard slamming, which shakes the window system assembly inside your door panel. In replacing a loose lifter mechanism (a.k.a. window regulator), do not forget to get improved lock nuts as well. These should hold your BMW 325i window regulator better in place.

Broken electric motor

As most BMW 325i window regulators today are already electric, the problem with your lifter mechanism might involve the tiny electric motor that powers it. To verify if the trouble really originates from the motor, go to the power distribution center. It is just under your car's hood, above the firewall on the left side. Examine fuse number 14 at 20 amp. Any unusual reading indicates need for immediate replacement.

The BMW 325i is part of the BMW 3-series, which is a line of luxury compact cars that’s been part of the BMW’s line of cars for 30 years. Many consider the 3-Series to be the core of the line, as it succeeds the BMW 2002, which made the car manufacturer well-known.

The 3-Series has also come out with various editions with different body types including sedans, hatchbacks, and wagons. But because BMW has been producing this series for three decades now, there has been a big demand for  BMW 325i parts.

When to buy a new 2006 BMW 325i Window Regulator?

Having a stuck or non-functioning car window is a very common problem, especially to older car models. This demands for a regular window replacement to avoid getting the mechanical assembly of the regulator too worn out.

A car window regulator is the mechanical assembly that moves the window up and down when power is supplied to an electric motor. With the case of manual windows, a so-called window crank is being turned.

According to BMW car owners, there are several tell-tale signs that will let you know if you already need to have your BMW 325i window regulator replaced.

When you hear unusual sounds

Just like the symptoms of every malfunctioning machine, a BMW 325i window regulator is no different. If you hear an unusual sound coming from your car window regulator, it just means it has to be checked, and later on replaced if it is already beyond repair.

When the cable has been detached

The most common problem with window regulators is the detachment of the cable inside. This system is made up of a series of pulleys that tend to detach. If regular maintenance and cleaning doesn’t help the issues you notice with your car regulator, it is advisable to buy a replacement.

Motor overheat

The motor used to supply power to your regulator can overheat too, and when it does, the motor will completely stop working. While you can wait for it to cool down in order to function normally, there is a big chance that it will no longer function, especially if it tends to overheat most of the time.

When the regulator freezes

Car window regulators tend to stop working in cold weather, specifically if it is below 30 degrees. This typically happens to BMWs with older window regulators. Trying to remedy the situation by putting the car window up and down repeatedly can only worsen the problem. This can cause accelerated wear and tear for the regulator.

Finding the right fit

You can take your time to explore our website’s BMW 325i parts catalog to find the perfect window car regulator replacement for your BMW. You can further explore the website by going through the search filters if you happen to be looking for other BMW 325i parts other than a car window regulator. Remember to type the exact model of your car for more narrowed and detailed search results.

Simple Steps to Keep the Good Condition of Your BMW 325i Window Regulator

The BMW 325i window regulator is probably one of the car parts you use most often. You press it when you want to lower the windows to let in the cool or warm breeze from the outside. You press it, still, to raise the windows when the outside air already becomes too warm or too cold for you. With such practical function and frequent use, do not expect it to be exempted from wear and damage. If you want to keep your BMW 325i window regulator in its good condition, then you had better read on for some simple maintenance tips.

Replace defective components.

Your BMW 325i window regulator works with a web of other window system parts, so if you want to keep a good regulator, it is also important to have well-functioning gears and electric motor. The motor is especially crucial in the function of your regulator, so once you see defect or wear in this part, get a replacement right away. It is also highly suggested to replace as soon as signs of defect arise because BMW 325i window regulator costs are way pricier than they appear.

Check the parts periodically.

As the adage goes, it is better to prevent than to cure. So check and work on the minor scratches and stalls right away even before they require major repairs or replacement. To have a good look at each of the components, you may need to remove the door panels of your BMW 325i. This may require some effort, but it still is an easy and sure way to spot possible defects in your car's window system. For all you know, a component might already be decaying in your window assembly, and this might just cause your BMW 325i window regulator to malfunction. One important piece to always keep an eye out for is the gray part on your window system's metal slide. This small piece is essential in carrying the window's weight for the raising and lowering function of your BMW 325i window regulator, and decay on this part can negatively alter the performance of your car's lifter mechanism.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the costly replacement of the BMW 325i window regulator covered under any type of warranty?

Anybody would be lucky to have the perfect after sales support for the car at exactly the time it is needed the most. Unfortunately, a BMW dealer rarely has the window regulator service and replacement specified under the car's warranty. They'll work on the motor and switch, but not the faulty regulator. Just buy the replacement at once and avoid the stress of haggling with the dealer. It's better to spend the money on maintenance and routine repairs rather than flush it down the drain with a useless warranty.

Is there a way for the windows of my BMW 325i to close if the new regulator isn't installed yet?

Don't worry about an exposed cabin because the windows can be pulled up by hand. Pull it all the way to the top and keep it in place with some tape or a rubber wedge. Unless the regulator's cable snapped, try this lucky fix wherein you reset the regulator to a completely open or close position. This can be done by simply pressing the down button for a while until the sound of movement stops, then hold the up button for some time as well.

What is a good way to determine if the BMW 325i window regulator has a problem in the window assembly?

Window regulator problems usually start when a window half-open suddenly gets stuck. Next, one may notice that it may either slowly slide down or you hear a sudden loud pop or thud as if someone threw a rock at the window. To isolate the problem to the regulator - and eliminate motor or rail issues, try adjusting the window by pressing or lifting the electronic lever and listen for the sound of the motor running. If that's the case, the regulator is the problem.
