Window Switch Panel Guides

Dos and Don'ts When Buying a Window Switch Panel

Choosing a window switch panel for your car is just like shopping for clothes. You have to bear in mind three basic things: the size, the use, and of course, the price. So before you go shopping, read some of these tips that will guide you when buying a window switch panel.

Dos:

  • Get the size and dimension of the original window switch panel before you buy a replacement. You also have to get the exact number of buttons that works on it. Some have only two switches while others have as much as seven. These switches are used for different car applications, but mainly to roll the window up and down.
  • Determine the location where the window switch panel is mounted. For some cars like Toyota Corolla 1989 models, it is on the dash, while for 1997 Honda Accord, it rests on the passenger's side. It's important to verify the location because you also have to measure the mounting depth, which starts from the base up to the part that protrudes.
  • Choose a color and material that complements with your car's interior. Most window switch panels are made from chrome-plated metal and aluminum. If you love their silvery-white finish, you can choose this. If you want a more rugged feel, buy the black finish. Some switch panels are made from aluminum and they are proven to be very durable. Plastic panels are also available and there are lots of colors to choose from. If you want to add a bit of style, this is a great choice. Moreover, they are more affordable.

Don'ts

  • Do not compromise quality for price. Window switch panels are more costly compared to other small components in your car, so it's better to make the most out of your money by purchasing from trusted brands only. Some of the well-known brands are AC Delco, OES Genuine, and Scan-Tech.
  • Do not buy switch panels that needs cutting and modification before installation. The problem is, you also have to cut or drill the dash or armrest in the car's interior. It would definitely take a lot of time. You might also scratch or scrape the plastic or leather surface inside the car.

Final tip

When in doubt, consult a technician before buying and installing the new window panel switch. The main concern here is the electrical wirings connected to it. These cables are sensitive and if the panel doesn't fit your car, it won't work. Since it is an electronic part, you have to verify the amount of power or electricity needed to make it work.
