Air Pump Hose Guides

Searching for the Right Air Pump Hose

The air pump hose plays an important role in keeping your exhaust gas clean. It is an essential part of your car's exhaust system as it is responsible for injecting fresh air from the secondary air pump to the primary pump thereby avoiding carbon buildup. Leaking or disconnected air pump hoses normally cause carbon buildup which pollutes your emission. If you notice your car breathing out black smoke, it's probably time to replace your air pump hose. Don't waste your time searching in vain and follow this helpful guide to help you on your search for the right air pump hose.

PVC Air Pump Hose

  • Sturdy Quality - A good thing about the PVC air pump hose is that it doesn't get broken or dislocated due to the car's roll motion or hard accelerations. Rubber-based air pump hoses can easily get dislocated if you happen to do off-road driving or racing.
  • Longer Warranty? PVC air pump hoses tend to get longer warranty and better service offers due to the difficulty of installing to your car.
  • Direct Fit ? Unlike rubber air pump hoses, PVC-based hoses have a more direct fit since each car has a specific PVC air pump hose that was made especially for a specific car make and model.

Rubber Air Pump Hose

  • Absorbs Heat ? One of the important things about rubber air pump hoses is that it absorbs heat effectively making it resistant to leaks caused by carbon buildup and overheating. PVC-based air pump hoses can overheat more quickly compared to its rubber counterpart.
  • Leak Resistant ? because of its heat absorbing quality, rubber air pump hoses seldom get leaks from overheating and carbon deposits. On the other hand, PVC-based air pump hoses can leak with too much heat and carbon deposit. If you spend most of your day driving, it's probably best to check your hose regularly for a more reliably performance.
  • Easily Installation ? Rubber air pump hoses are also easier to install due to its flexible quality unlike PVC air pump hoses. However, some car makes still require molded PVC air pump hoses to fit in the engine bay. Consult your car manual for more instructions.

5 Easy Steps to Replace Your Air Pump Hose

If your car's producing jet black streams of smoke or your fuel seems to run out much quicker, you probably have a leak in your air pump hose. The air pump hose is a component of your car's exhaust system that helps improve fuel economy and clean up emissions by simply transferring fresh air from the air pump to the secondary air injection system. Leaks in your air pump hose may produce smoke that has concentrated amounts of unburned fuel. In addition, a leaking air pump hose can stack your combustion chamber with too much carbon deposits that pollute the exhaust gas coming out of your tailpipe. Letting your car run without an air pump hose replacement might turn your car into a highly polluting smoke -belching machine. Avoid this by following these five simple steps to replace your air pump hose.

Difficulty Level:Easy

Tools you'll need:

  • Pliers
  • New Air Pump Hose
  • Gloves
  • Eye protection gear

Step 1: Locate the air pump hose near the lower right corner of the engine block. The hose connects the air pump to the secondary pump, so if you know where the air pump is, it would be easy for you to find its hose.

Step 2: Detach the hose clamps while holding the rubber hose in your other hand. Use a pair of pliers to remove the hose from the body of the air pump.

Step 3: Remove the other end of the air pump hose connecting to the secondary air pump by using a pair of pliers.

Step 4: Use a pair of pliers to attach one end of the new air pump hose to the air pump and the other to the secondary pump.

Step 5: Check for leaks?you can do this by going on a test drive and closely observing your emission and fuel consumption.

Safety Tip:Leaking air pump hoses can contain high amounts of carbon deposits so make sure to wear gloves and eye protection gear for safety purposes.
