A seven-speed manual transmission may sound a little far fetched for a model that’s not a Porsche 911 or Chevrolet Corvette. But if recent rumors are true, it looks like a 7MT is on its way to the new Ford Bronco.
Based on a report published by TFLCar, the upcoming model will be equipped with a seven-speed manual transmission with a so-called “crawler” gear. This is a type of gear that’s specifically designed for low-speed and high-torque applications like when traversing rocky roads.
With a crawler gear, the new Ford Bronco will have off-road capability even without a two-speed transfer case and other off-road specific hardware. Although if these accessories were added in the mix, the model’s off-roading capacity will certainly get a boost.

This isn’t the first time the upcoming model is rumored to be getting a 7MT. In fact, there have been reports about it as far back as 2018 when an article claimed the would-be Bronco could have a crawl ratio that would make it off-road-ready.
Ford, however, has not confirmed any of the reports then and now, meaning it still remains to be seen whether the automaker will actually give the Bronco a seven-speed manual transmission or stick to the conventional.
The new Ford Bronco is expected to debut sometime this year.
