However familiar the Ford Ranger Raptor nameplate is, it has never graced American shores. The Blue Oval has not made the “ultimate truck” available to customers in the United States despite how popular it is in other markets.
But with a new redesign set to arrive for the model, could it finally be entering the US market?
The upcoming Ranger Raptor is expected to be part of the Ford’s 2023 model year portfolio and will complete the Ranger lineup, which recently released an off-road-focused Tremor package. This Raptor variant is expected to go up against models from Chevrolet, Jeep, and Toyota.
While not much is known about the model, earlier leaked images suggest that its overall design will feature a squared-off front end and C-shaped headlights similar to those of the redesigned F-150. On top of this, the Ranger Raptor model is also believed to get a “Ford”-scripted blacked-out grille, skid plates, side steps, more pronounced fenders, and exclusive black wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich K02 all-terrain rubber. It is also likely getting the adaptive performance dampers and a coil-spring suspension setup, both of which can be found on the F-150 Raptor and the Bronco Warthog.
In short, the future Ranger Raptor will have all the good things Ford has to offer for a model of its size and function.
Under the hood, the same twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter V-6 that powers the 2021 Bronco SUV is also likely to be fitted on the 2023 Ranger Raptor. It delivers 310 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. On the other hand, the standard Ranger truck will still be equipped with the turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque.
The new Ranger Raptor was recently spotted testing with the Bronco Warthog, proving how it can be another competitive off-roading truck for the brand. While it’s yet to be confirmed whether this version of the Ranger Raptor will be available in the US, all eyes remain peeled on its rumored debut shortly after the 2022 Ranger arrival at dealerships sometime later this year or early next year.
