I just picked up my Buick GS 350 straight from my friend's garage last week. Everything seems to be working fine until I encountered some issues with the engine earlier today. It has a factory engine with a Holley 750 DP on it. I bought a new Edelbrock 650 AVS Series carburetor, but I'm having trouble figuring out the vacuum connections. I want to do it on my own, but if I can't figure it out, I'll be taking it to my dealer. What should I do?

First of all, you need to check if the spark plug wires are in good condition and if they are all going to the correct cylinders. Next, inspect the timing, points and condenser, distributor cap, and rotor if they are all working fine. Check if the car starts and idles without any problem. Also, check if you have any vacuum leaks. You can do this by putting your hand over the top of the carburetor, and see if the engine idle speed increases. If it does, then you have a vacuum leak. The Edelbrock setup for vacuums is simple. Run the main vacuum port to the front of the carburetor. It has two smaller vacuum ports on either side of the main vacuum port: one for manual and another one for automatic transmission.

Yesterday, I installed a new replacement TH 350 transmission pan into my Buick GS 350. However, as I crawl under my vehicle today to install the flex plate to the converter bolts, the converter won't spin because it seems to be wedged against the flex plate. The flex plate protrudes away from the engine. I wonder what type of tolerance should there be between the converter bolts and the flex plate to ensure that it is properly installed?

Installing the flex plate to the converter bolts should be an easy task. All you need to do is to loosen the bell housing bolts halfway and remove the transmission mount out. Next, try to turn the converter or flex plate while wiggling the transmission pan back and forth. After unbolting the bell housing and cross member, the converter should be seated and spun properly. If you hear any clunking sound after installing it, you need to turn and push it until it drops down two more times.

I have a GS 350 with a 3-speed manual transmission. I recently found out that the rear seal has been leaking. I would like to replace it on my own, but I don't know how because I'm not familiar with this particular transmission. My car's relatively new, and I believe that its transmission has never been changed. What should I do?

If you are not familiar with this kind of transmission, it is the same as that of a Ford Toploader. Buick uses transmissions built by Ford. It is called a toploader because the gears loaded are installed from the top and not on the side, which is usually the case in most transmissions.
