How to Install a New Mercedes Benz Bumper Cover in 4 Steps
Your Mercedes Benz is equipped with a durable bumper that helps in absorbing the impact from minor crashes. To enhance its protective feature, the bumper cover is made available. But despite how durable it is, your Mercedes Benz bumper cover is still prone to damage. So if it's time for you to replace the old one, check out this helpful guide:
Required skill level: Novice
Needed tools and materials
- New screws and plastic clips
- Basecoat and clear coat
Removing the old bumper cover
Make sure that you have engaged the emergency parking brake. Search for the screws that fasten the old bumper cover to your vehicle's frame afterwards. These can be found above the grille and on the underside of the hood. Using a screwdriver, loosen and remove the plastic clips that also help in holding up the old bumper cover. You may now lift the old bumper cover away after all its fasteners are gone.
Preparing the new bumper cover
If your new bumper cover does not yet look polished, you must clean it first before installing it. You can start by buffing it with 600-grit wet sandpaper to remove the impurities from the surface. Apply the basecoat and clear coat afterwards, and then you may buff the bumper cover once again with wet sandpaper, preferably one with a higher grit, to ensure that its surface will be smoother and free from dirt particles. Reapply the two coats for a polished finish. Let your new bumper cover dry up properly before proceeding to the next step.
Lining up the fasteners and the bumper cover
Make sure that you have new screws and plastic clips that will serve as fasteners to your new bumper cover. The old ones may become loose from being removed earlier, making them unsafe for the proper installation and incapable of securing the new bumper cover. Once the new fasteners are prepared, lift the new bumper cover with the help of another person. This will allow you to line up the fasteners to the corresponding holes in the vehicle's frame while being able to support the bumper cover properly. This process is important before securing the fasteners as this ensures that your new bumper cover has the proper measurement for it to be properly placed on the frame of your vehicle.
Pressing the clips and screws and securing the new bumper cover
After mounting the new bumper cover over the frame of your vehicle, you may now snap the plastic clips into place. Once you are done, locate all the small holes on your new bumper cover. These holes are intended for the screws. Open the hood to help you find the locations of the holes more easily. In this way, the lining of the wheel well will surely be well-connected to the border of your new bumper cover. Finally, your new bumper cover is installed. Close the hood afterwards.
