My Chevrolet Spark is not accelerating properly. Why am I experiencing this?
There are a number of reasons why your car is not accelerating. Some problems can be fixed easily, while some requires the service of a professional mechanic. One of the most common reasons is that the clutch does not properly engage the gearbox with the engine. A faulty timing belt can also cause this problem. Another cause is your fuel filter may already be too dirty, which hampers the flow of fuel in the engine. Your air filter may be clogged too. Air is needed to burn fuel efficiently, so if the air filter is clogged, your engine may not be getting the right fuel/air mixture.
My brakes are weak. What should I do?
Your brakes are very important so the slightest problem with it should not be ignored. If you feel that your brakes are already too weak and incapable of stopping your vehicle at the right time, there's definitely something wrong with one or a couple of its components. Commonly, brake problems arise from the brake pads since they get worn out quicker than the other brake components. The brake pads come in contact with the discs constantly, so they get thinner and thinner over time. However, if you see that the pads are still good, they may only need to be sprayed with water to wash away the dirt that has accumulated on the pads. You might also want to check the brake fluid level. If it's already too low, you need to top up as soon as possible.
My ignition switch won't turn when I insert the key. What should I do?
If your ignition switch is stuck, try lubricating the switch with a non-conductive lubricant, such as dielectric silicon grease or electronics cleaners. Also, try wiggling the steering wheel back and forth. The steering column might be binding. This usually happens when one of the front wheels are turned at an angle against a curb. You should also try checking if your key is still okay. If it is already too worn, it might be the one preventing the ignition switch from turning. Try using the spare key that you have kept aside. If the ignition key turns using the spare key, your old key should retire already.
Why is my car not shifting gears properly?
When your car is not shifting gears properly, the first thing that you should do is to check the transmission fluid. The problem may be coming from low transmission fluid. If you are lacking transmission fluid, it's easy to fix since you only have to top up on transmission fluid. Check the color of the transmission fluid. It should be pink and clear. If it has changed color, it is already contaminated and may need to be flushed and replaced with fresh fluid. If your transmission fluid is still good, check the throttle cables. If it is defective or worn out, it can prevent proper shifting. When you are having problems with the transmission, have it fixed immediately.
