Chevrolet Trax Guides

3 Helpful Ways on How to Keep the Chevrolet Trax in Top Shape

Being a compact and lithe SUV, the Chevrolet Trax is perfect for city driving. It is responsive and smooth; plus its size makes it easy to park even in tricky corners. The interiors may not be luxury class, but it is roomy and comfortable with ample head and leg space. This subcompact crossover SUV was first introduced by Chevrolet in the 2012 Paris Auto Show. Since then, the Trax was sold in the international market with a variety of drive train options. Owners laud the Trax for its maneuverability, smoothness, visibility, and fuel efficiency. If you own a Chevrolet Trax, here are some helpful tips on how to keep the Trax in good condition.

  • Ensure proper tire care.

Caring for the tires is a basic maintenance goal that will do your Trax plenty of good, especially in the long run. Uneven wear and rubber damage may cause stress to the engine, diminishing driving quality and fuel efficiency. First and foremost, always make sure that the tires have the right amount of pressure. Inspect the tires at least once a month. Examine it visually and feel the rubber using your fingers to get a sense of the tire condition. Watch out for uneven wear, which can be avoided by rotating the tires every 5,000 miles or every six months. Another thing is to never allow the tread depth to exceed 2/32 of an inch; otherwise the tires would be considered legally worn out. Wash off grime, road salts, and dust using a good quality tire cleaner. Consider using tire protectants as there are many useful ones available in the market.

  • Maintain the fluids.

There are five important engine fluids that you need to check up on: the fuel, the brake fluid, the power steering fluid, the transmission fluid, and the coolant fluid. Some fluids require inspection more often, such as the fuel. The fuel needs to be bled out at least once a year, to pave way for a fresher and cleaner supply. Ensure that your engine burns clean and uncontaminated fuel. A sign of fuel contamination is foaming and graying; plus the presence of debris coming from bits of chrome, rust, and rubber. Some fluids, like the power steering fluid, needs to be checked less often. However, an annual tune-up must still cover all of these fluids. The annual tune-up will provide insight on the quality and levels of these fluids; and if there is any leaking present. Some common frustrating car problems, such as vibration while steering, is also usually caused by something being wrong with an engine fluid.

  • Use quality detailing tools.

An excellently maintained paint finish makes up a superior-looking vehicle. Thus, it will be good for you to invest in high-grade detailing tools if you want to achieve this goal. Avoid detergent-based cleansers and choose quality car cleansers appropriate for each part. There's a tire cleaner, a car cleanser, and an upholstery shampoo. Make sure that you use non-abrasive car cloths in washing and drying the exteriors. The use of the wrong kind of cloth may actually do more harm than good. The friction can cause unwanted scratches and it would not look nice. A soft-feathered detailing brush will also do the job of dusting off the air vents, gauges, and grilles inside the Trax. Keeping your vehicle looking good inside out will not only give you a better driving experience, but it also gives the vehicle a good value once you decide to sell it in the future.
