Things You Need to Consider when Buying an Electrical Pin Connector
Buying electric pin connectors for your automobile is not as difficult as purchasing other parts. A number of varieties are available in the market and you can simply choose according to your needs. It is significant that you are informed of different things to consider before buying otherwise you will end up going back to the store again and again. Here is the list of the things you need to consider when purchasing electric pin connector.
Properties of electric pin connectors
Different electric pin connectors are available for different uses. When you go to an auto parts store, you will be offered with different types of electric pin connectors. However, you will not be having difficulties as they are categorized according to their sizes, the materials they are made of, physical construction, pin outs, etc. This is true if you are knowledgeable of the electric pin connector you are buying. Again, it is important that you know what to buy.
Types of electrical pin connectors
There are two common types of electric pin connectors. They are the terminal electric connector and the so-called wire nuts. If what you need is an electric connector that will serve as an end of a particular wire, then what you need is a terminal pin connector. It will serve as your conductor from an electrical component and will function as your point of connection to external circuits. On the other hand, if what you need is a connector that will serve as a link of two or more electrical wires, then it is the wire nuts that you need. They are fasteners to tightly clasp your wires to prevent dangerous faults or short circuits.
Gender of connectors
It is easy to determine which connector is male and which is female. Imagine a Lego toy brick link where male on top and female underneath. Similarly, for electric connectors, the female is nothing but a receptacle that holds the male connector. So, in making a connection or link between electric wires, connectors are designated as male and female to determine what you need. These two are called “mating” plugs.
The cable adapter
A cable adapter, from the word itself suggests that it converts the male connector into female of the same type and vice versa. Basically, this kind of adapter makes your connector more suitable to your need without having to determine which is male and which is female. This is convenient especially if you are not really knowledgeable about electric stuffs. You simply buy a generic connector and use gender changer to fit what you need.
Note that in electrical and mechanical trades, this term has a broader sense; this may also refer to a cable that has male connectors in both ends or a cable that has female connectors in both ends or that having male and female connectors in its opposite ends respectively.
