Exhaust Tip Guides

Yes, it's true that how your vehicle looks is not all that matters. But admit it-you want your car to look good anyway. Enhancing your vehicle's appearance can be done in many ways: repainting, waxing, installing trendy wheels, body kits, and even using Lambo-style doors. If you want to take vehicle customization to another level, though, replacing your vehicle's stock exhaust tip is definitely a smart idea. Today, exhaust tips are made more attractive and shinier, with their mirror finishes. In fact, many aftermarket exhaust tips are constructed from aircraft-grade T-304 stainless steel for a finish that won't chip, flake or rust. Besides enhancing your vehicle's aesthetics, a premium exhaust tip helps improve exhaust flow and produces a well-pronounced sound. Enjoy all these benefits by installing a premium-quality, stylish exhaust tip today! Carparts can help you find the best exhaust tip for your vehicle.

• Our exhaust tips are available in two finishes: stainless steel or chrome.

• A sleek and shiny exhaust tip protruding from under your vehicle's rear bumper adds up your car's external aesthetics.

• Easy part installation guaranteed - no drilling or cutting needed.

Buying Tips on Exhaust Tips

Aftermarket exhaust tips are a big upgrade compared to the boring, rustic tailpipe. These are a great way of putting some shine and class on your car. Custom tips not only make your car flashier, these also change the sound your engine makes, giving it a wilder and more ferocious roar.

Here are a few things to consider when picking the perfect tips for your car.

What are exhaust tips made of?

Exhaust tips are made of the following materials. Some are more suitable over another depending on the application.

  • Chrome: This style is the shiniest and the most eye-catching type of tip. Its great look comes with a high tolerance of heat. The only big downside of a chrome tip is that it also tends to rust quicker as compared to other types.
  • Stainless Steel: At a more expensive price, stainless steel tips are made to be tougher than chrome tips. Style is not lost as these tips also give enough shine to be flashy too. The problem with stainless steel tips is that it changes color when it gets too hot. This is usually fixed by lining the tips with an inner wall to absorb extra heat.
  • Titanium: These are the most expensive and the most durable type of tip in the market. Because it is very lightweight, titanium tips are usually used for racing applications where speed is the key.

How do my tips sound?

Installing custom tips affect the sound your car gives. There are two things to look for if you want to change the voice of your car.

  • Size: Bigger tips give a louder, deeper, tone compared to smaller ones. The sound is further increased if your car is equipped with an improved exhaust system.
  • Resonated and non-resonated: Tips can also be classified as resonated reduce noise because of its fiberglass lining. Non-resonated tips are not, which makes them nosier.

How do my tips look like?

Exhaust tips come in many designs and finishes. Choosing one is completely up to the buyer's taste.

  • Shape and design: The most recognizable shape are circular tips. There are also square, rectangular, and triangular tips available. Some point straight to the rear while others are bent downwards or sideways. Tips can also be painted on with artwork for more personalization.
  • Number: Two tips make your car appear to be equipped with a more powerful dual exhaust system, making people respect your car even more.

Quick Fix to Ugly Exhaust Tips

Since a stock tailpipe releases combustion fumes from the car into the air, it accumulates rust and corrosion, making your car's rear-end look dirty. An aftermarket exhaust tip is an attachment to the tailpipe which adds style points to your car. Installation of this accessory is a quick and easy job that immediately turns the tailpipe's ugliness into a beauty.

Difficulty Level: Easy

Tools Needed:

  • Wrench set
  • Screwdriver set
  • Rubber mallet
  • Small torch
  • Electric drill
  • Dry rags
  • Tape measure
  • Lubricant
  • Exhaust tip

Step 1: Switch the engine off and let it cool for some time some time. This allows the pipes to be touchable and workable.

Step 2: For old cars that have a pre-installed detachable exhaust tip, remove the old tip first before installing the new one. This can be challenging because it can be really stuck to the tailpipe, and very difficult to take off. Try removing any nuts and bolts securing the tip. If the screws are on too tight, use a small torch to heat and loosen the screws and metal pipes. For extra-tight fittings, drill the screws off. Make sure the drill does not touch and damage any other parts of the car. Tap the old tip with the rubber mallet to safely remove it. Clean the pipes after.

Step 3: Before attaching the new tip, measure the tip's inlet to see if it fits the tailpipe. Also check if the rear bumper needs to be trimmed to accommodate the extended tip.

Step 4: Install and secure the new exhaust tip to the tailpipe. Push it in with the rubber mallet. Position it in a way that pleases you and fits the vehicle. Different tips have different attaching systems. Some have screws that adjust locking tabs to the tailpipe. Others have clamps that clip the tip into place. There are also tips that need to be welded on the tailpipe.

Step 5: After a few weeks of use, check if the tip is still tightly screwed or clamped on the tailpipe. Heat may expand and tighten the metal which can loosen the fitting.

Tips

  • Unless the tip uses clamps or screws, don't install a weld-on exhaust tip if the inlet diameter is too big compared to the tailpipe.
  • Some lubricants are flammable. Be careful when applying it on the pipes especially if you need to heat the pipes with the torch or weld the new tip on.
