I own a Fiat X-1/9. It is a stunner to look at and fantastic around corners. My only complaint about it is that the front headlight has to be put up manually. How can I improve it?

It is either the problem is with a blown fuse on your headlights or the diodes on your headlights themselves. If the problem is a blown fuse, you just have to locate the mini fuses in the fuse box. They are little hard to find but they are out there. What you are going to do is to simply remove them and check them.

If the problem is not your fuse but the diodes on the headlight motors, it's a different thing. Normally, the diodes are bare to elements and often break. Soldering new ones in will surely solve the problem. Be sure they face the correct way. Rarely do the motors themselves cause this problem.

It could be that the linkage assembly is rusty or if your wipers do not work at all, the linkage assembly could be seized. To fix this problem, you yourself should test them. First, disconnect the linkage from the motor then test them whether you can move them back and forth without exerting much effort. You need to disassemble the linkage so as the wiper motor. The brushes should be in good shape. If they are worn, you can't do anything about it but to install a new one.

After that, using an amount of oil, you lube the small ball bearing at the end of the shaft. Be sure to repack the reduction gear with grease.

Try to check the wire going to the solenoid. Sometimes, this wire becomes loose, breaks, or becomes corroded. The best solution is to just install a new connector.
