The lovely, creeping fog permeates the place where Stephen King's short story "Strawberry Spring" is set. Here the reader is introduced to New Sharon College where a horrific set of murders is being committed by a serial killer known as Springheel Jack. The yet unknown killer has a penchant for killing during Strawberry Spring, a season characterized by very thick fog that is capable of covering everything like a strange shroud. Bodies turn up during this time of the year as Springheel Jack continues with his affair with the fog, an ally conceals him as he performs his grisly acts.
It is not just Springheel Jack which thick fog has the ability to conceal. It is also capable of concealing cars that are running side by side on the same road. Accidents can happen during foggy situations when it is difficult for drivers to see other vehicles around them. This predicament ushered in the development of the contraption known as the fog light.
Not all vehicles are equipped with fog lights. Those that employ such, however, are a lot more protected than those which are not. Fog lights are the ones which enable drivers to spot other vehicles as other drivers are able to spot his. This way, collisions that might occur during situations as difficult are avoided altogether
The employment of fog lights proves to be a lot advantageous. This is especially so if the ones in use are Nissan fog lights. Fog lights that deck Nissan vehicles guarantee their owners that they have no way of getting lost amidst thick fog that is capable of swallowing them up like a leviathan. Nissan fog lights also prove to be long lasting as they need not be replaced in a very long time.
Navigating vehicles through thick fog is a daunting task. This problem is addressed by the existence of Nissan fog lights on vehicles which employ them. In weather conditions such as this, it pays to have exceptional fog lights in tow. Nobody knows if Springheel Jack is waiting to catch up on him in the lovely, creeping fog.

Easy-to-Follow Steps for Installing Nissan Fog Light
Visibility is always important when driving. And if you live in an area that sees a lot of inclement weather or low visibility conditions, the standard lights on your vehicle will not be enough. Purchasing and installing new fog lights is a great way to increase visibility as well as give your ride a new look. Once these lights are turned on, the light they produce travels further and cover the surface of the road more clearly; this allows the driver to detect pot holes sooner and thus avoid blown tires. Installing a new set of Nissan fog lights is not that hard if you know what to do. Here is a guide to help you out:
Required skill level: Intermediate
Needed tools and materials:
- Ramps or jack and jack stands
- 10mm socket and/or wrench
- Philips and flat head screwdriver
- Electrical tape
- Zip ties
- Pair of crimpers/strippers
- Fog lights installation package
- Additional wires as necessary
Choosing your Nissan fog lights
Step 1: Check your state laws. There are areas where certain restrictions apply on what type and color of lights are allowed to be installed on your vehicle. It would be better to check with your local regulations first to make sure that you only buy and install fog lights that are in compliance.
Step 2: Choose what kind of bulb type you want to use. There are three main types of bulbs that are available for fog lights: LED (light emitting diodes), HID (high intensity discharge), and halogen.
Step 3: Choose the light mounting style. Depending on what type of vehicle you have, there are three options of mounting fog lights that you can choose from: bumper mount, grille mount, and rack mount. Bumper mount lights are styled the way most fog lights come from the factory; this type is what you should get if you are just replacing stock fog lights. Grill mount lights are larger, usually round, and installed on the front grille or behind it. Rack mount lights, on the other hand, are rectangular and mounted onto the front brush guard, which is common with trucks and SUVs.
Installing the fog lights
Step 1: Make sure that your vehicle is turned off and parked properly. Check that the parking brake is engaged and that your vehicle is parked on a level surface to avoid untoward accidents.
Step 2:. Locate the hole in the firewall where the wires will run through. If your vehicle is not originally equipped with fog lights, you will need to run the wiring for an on-off switch from under the hood. Most vehicles have a pre-drilled hole in the firewall for the purpose of running wires under the hood to the interior. In an unlikely chance that the vehicle doesn't have a pass-through hole, you will need to drill one and use a tight rubber grommet around the wire to seal out elements.
Step 3: Connect the fog light switch. Your Nissan fog light installation package will come with a power wire that's split in the shape of a “Y”. Route one end of the wire through the firewall hole and then connect it to the center terminal of the on-off switch. The outer insulation for this wire will be white. Next, take the black ground wire and connect one end to the grounding terminal on the switch. Connect the other one to an unpainted metal section under the dash. Look for the red wire and hook this into the corresponding terminal on the switch and run the other end through hole into the hood. There will be another section of this red wire that you will connect to the battery-make sure to connect that last.
Step 4: Synch the power to the ignition. Look for the green wire in your installation kit and connect that to the ignition fuse inside the fuse box. This will ensure that the fog lights will only operate when the vehicle's ignition is turned on.
Step 5: Remove the bumper cover. There is a good chance that the bumper cover will already have openings or pre-defined cutout areas marked inside; this is where you will install the fog light. Now, look for bolts and screws that secure the bumper in place and remove them using a wrench or screwdriver. If there are any flat plastic caps or clips, use a flathead screwdriver to wedge and remove them.
Step 6: Install the fog light. Make sure that the assembly is in place and ensure the bolt holes are the same. If the bolt holes don't line up, you may need to drill new ones. If the holes are good, it's time to thread the washer and nut over the bolt. Tighten the bolts using a ratchet or wrench. Be careful not to over tighten as you may damage the fog light housing or the bumper. You just need the housing to be snug and immobile.
Step 7: Attach the switch. It is now time to attach the fog light switch to the housing and verify that the lights are operational. Turn the ignition on and switch on the fog lights to see if it's now working.
For your Nissan fog lights to be more effective, make sure to have them mounted in a location on the vehicle as low to the ground as possible. This way, you can maximize coverage of road surface when driving on low visibility conditions or even when it's pitch black.
