I am having trouble with the retractable top of my Ford Skyliner. In order to have the retractable top lift off and slide into the truck, I have to remove first the decorative side panels on the interior of the car just above the rear seat. Does anyone know about this?
This has to be the Limit Switch. You have to check your Manual about this issue to know more about the schematics and adjustments. This is in case if you do not know about this matter. Check your manual to find the switches if you do not know where to find them and then start from there.
I have driveline vibration problem for six (6) months now. I don't know how to fix it since I have a little knowledge about cars and its engine. Can somebody help me?
You just need to correct angle problems on your vehicle since this is nothing but a balancing issue. You need help from a driveline shop to fix this as you cannot do this yourself. It is important that such driveline shop is expert in balancing the entire shaft with a joint and all.
I restored my Ford Skyliner, which had a wiring issue, but the starter still does not kick over and the resistor starts to smoke if I leave the ignition in the run position. Help!
First, be sure that the starter works properly. You can test it by jumping the solenoid for a couple of seconds and by applying direct voltage to the starter cable. The starter cable needs to be checked for the voltage at the starter, when the solenoid is engaged. Second, for the ignition, the ballast resistor will get very hot when the key is left on, but possibly you had the coil connections put backward, points not adjusted correctly or wrong ballast resistor for the car. The coil may not require ballast resistor and may be causing ballast resistor to overheat.
What are the advantages of the retractable hardtop of my Ford Skyliner? On the contrary, what are its disadvantages?
Among the advantages of your retractable hardtop is that it is more weatherly than the fabric tops when up, it is more secure than the fabric tops, it increased structural rigidity over a soft top, it eliminates the need for a tonneau cover, and it has also no UV fading or underside. In addition, it eliminates removal and reinstallation of detachable hardtop. It may also enable consolidation or simplification of a manufacturer's car line up. It is also more attractive than fabric tops and hard-tops generally have better visibility than soft-tops when the roof is up.
Aside from the higher initial cost, increased mechanical complexity, and potentially higher repair cost, hard-tops cons include: potentially diminished passenger and trunk space compared to a soft-top convertible, potentially expensive repairs, potentially weather intrusion at seams and potential need for more than minimum vertical clearance. In addition, a possible simultaneous engine and battery failure preventing complete roof cycling. It also potentially needs for more than minimum car footprints.
