Installing a Hardtop Storage Cart in Seven Steps
Once in a while, you need to remove your vehicle's hardtop so you and your passengers can breathe fresh air while traveling. However, removing and storing this part can be troublesome especially if your garage is not that spacious. One way to solve these problems is by using a hardtop storage cart. Typically made of high-quality metal and plastic, this cart is used to safely unmount your vehicle's top. What's more, you can also use this to store the hardtop vertically somewhere in your garage. If you're wondering about how you can use this cart, this guide will teach you how you can do it with the help of a few tools.
Difficulty level: Moderate
What you'll need:
- Hardtop storage cart
- Wrench set
- Four helpers
Pre-installation tip: To avoid damaging your hardtop storage cart, make sure that its carrying a maximum load of 235 pounds or 106.6 kilograms.
Step 1: Using your wrench, loosen and remove the bolts that are holding your vehicle's hardtop in place. If you have a two-door hardtop, then you need to remove six bolts. But if you have a four-door hardtop, then you need to loosen eight bolts.
Step 2: Store the bolts that you removed somewhere safe so you won't lose them.
Step 3: Slide the hardtop off your vehicle a bit. Then, hook the storage cart's safety strap to the front part of the hardtop.
Step 4: Attach the cart to the rear part of the hardtop. Make sure that the cart's hooks are supporting the rear flange of the top so you can remove it easily.
Step 5: With the help of your friends, lift the hardtop of your vehicle carefully. Once it's off the vehicle, hold the lift handles of the storage cart properly, and move the hardtop backwards slowly.
Step 6: Put the hardtop on the ground gently. Then, carefully lift it up so it is resting against the storage cart. Make sure that the hardtop isn't rocking back and forth by applying the storage cart brakes.
Step 7: Once you're sure that the hardtop is properly secured, release the brakes. Then, roll the cart somewhere safe to store the top assembly.
