Hyundai Sonata Customer Reviews

Control Arm - Front, Driver Side, Lower
Mar 15, 2020
Sonata Contrrol Arm Installation
The control arm was a perfect fit into my 2006 Sonata. The only real problem was removing the old control arm. The bolts through the mounts of the chassis were rusted and I could not loosen them with a breaker bar. I used my 3/4 air impact wrench and it loosened the bolts. The only other minor problem was freeing the lower pivot for the wheel. Once the old control arm was removed, I coated the mating surfaces with anti seize grease and all the bolts and nuts and installed the control arm and the other components I had to remove.

Hyundai Sonata Guides

Hyundai, meaning "modern" is a reflection of the era's present technological developments. As a vehicle that competes with the creations of respected manufacturers' world wide, it is expected to equip its units with all the auto parts which were machined only through efficient and advance technology.

Among Hyundai models, the Sonata is the one to have the latest edition. It's a mid-size car which was primarily transformed into a unit with a bigger chassis, better equipments, improved technology and sharper styling than its predecessors. The dimensions however have put the vehicle into a confusing situation. One cannot categorize it at once. But basically, the changes actually provided Sonata an enhanced image, new look and an aura of modernity.

Behind this image is a performance that's being generated through the use of all 2006 Hyundai Sonata parts. It features two types of engines, the 2.4-liter double overhead cam 16-valve inline-4 that kicks 162 horses and the 235 horsepower generating 3.3-liter dohc 24-valve V6 engine. Both can be coupled with a five-speed manual transmission or 4-speed Shiftronic automatic. Another transaxle is made available, the new five-speed Shiftronic automatic, which is only applicable for the V6 engine.

Sonata comes in GL, GLS, GLS V6 and LX. FAQs—Hyundai Sonata

I am an owner of a Hyundai Sonata, and I have a problem when shifting to fifth gear. I think the engine is misfiring whenever I shift to fifth. What could be causing this problem?

Engine misfire is very hard to diagnose because of its complexity. There is a number of components that can cause an engine misfire. You will have to test each one to know specifically the one at fault. Also, if there is misfiring, the check engine light flashes.

If you haven't had your tune-up yet, then now is the best time to do it, especially since you are having a misfiring issue. By having the tune-up, you will get to eliminate some of the possible causes like faulty spark plugs, arcing ignition coil, and defective distributor cap and rotors since you will need to change them. You would get to replace the air and fuel filters as well. If the tune-up works, then you're in luck because the cause of the problem is simple. But if it does not, then that means the cause of the problem is more complicated and would need a serious repair.

I've heard a loud sound similar to a gunshot under my Hyundai Sonata while driving home. I didn't really take serious notice of it since there was no change in the performance of my car during that time. What could have caused the sound? Is the sound an indication of a defect in my car? Do I need to have a mechanic checked on my car?

What you just experience is what a lot of people call car backfiring. The loud gunshot noise that you mentioned is what gave it away. There are several causes of car backfires such as incorrect wiring in the ignition that leads to timing issues. Likewise, low fuel pressure, dirty fuel filters, and inefficient fuel pumps can also affect the air to fuel ratio during fuel injection. Damaged catalytic converter or the lack thereof can also lead to backfires. So yes, better to have your car checked by a mechanic, so you will know the real culprit behind that loud sound.

My Hyundai Sonata reverberates whenever I stepped on the brake. How do I fix this problem?

The shuddering or the reverberating of the brake is usually caused by a faulty suspension, but before you bring your car to the nearest repair center, it is best to first do some minor troubleshooting. For instance, try to check the mounting nuts and bolts if they are loose. If they are, then tighten them. The next things that you need to check are the shocks and the leaf springs. See if they are worn out and if they need replacement. After you checked all these and see what repairs are needed, then that is the time that you call a mechanic or bring your car to a repair center. But be wary as some repair shops may quote you higher than the usual. Take the time to compare.

Hyundai Sonata: An Automobile Symphony

Hyundai proved to its competitors that it can build a car that is affordable and easy to maintain. For a mid-sized sedan, the Sonata offers a lot of features like a plush and sporty trim variant, a number of safety features, and a front-wheel drive system. The Sonata’s fluid and aerodynamic styling proves that Hyundai’s sedans aren’t just built for families, but also for the sporty and discerning few.

1985 to 1987: First Generation

The Hyundai Sonata was first made available to the Korean and Canadian markets. Based on the Hyundai Stellar’s body, it was powered by a 1.6-liter I4 engine, coupled with a 5-speed manual transmission. The Hyundai Sonata was also sold in New Zealand, and it was fitted with a 1.6-liter Mitsubishi engine. Unfortunately, the Sonata was not made available to the US market because it did not meet the EPA’s emission standards.

1988 to 1993: Second Generation

Designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro of ItalDesign, the Hyundai Sonata was made available to the North American market after the success of the Excel. It used the Mitsubishi Galant Sigma platform and its 2.4-liter Sirius I4 engine. A 2.0-liter engine variant of the Hyundai Sonata was introduced to the U.S market in 1992, replacing the original 2.4-liter sedan. The Sonata was also made available to the Canadian market in 1987.

1993 to 1998: Third Generation

The front and rear of the Hyundai Sonata underwent some modifications in 1996. A 2.0-liter Sirius I4 was the base engine used during this generation. In some markets, a 3.0-liter Mitsubishi V6 engine was offered as an option. ABS, alloy wheels, body-colored bumpers, cruise and climate control, rear electric windows, traction control, satellite navigation, and isofix child seat anchor points were some of the standard features offered by Hyundai for the European Sonata market.

1999 to 2005: Fourth Generation

Hyundai’s Santa Fe, a compact cross-over SUV, shared its platform with the Sonata. The 1998 models were powered by either a 2.0-liter Hyundai Sirius or a 2.5-liter Hyundai Delta V6 engine. In 2002, the Sonata’s engine was changed to an all-aluminum,2.7-liter DOHC Hyundai Delta V6. The Sonata’s overall sales in 2004 reached 104,000 units. The Kia Optima’s body frame is also based on this Sonata’s platform.

2004 to 2010: Fifth Generation

Hyundai launched the new Sonata with the opening of its Montgomery, Alabama plant in 2005. Based on the NF platform, the Sonata was fitted with a new all-aluminum I4 engine called “Theta.” The 2.4-liter and 3.3-liter V6 engines were made available to the mass market. Hyundai also released a diesel variant for the Sonata, which was used in Europe, New Zealand, and in Singapore as a taxi service. The Sonata also underwent a facelift in 2008, with the help of the Hyundai-Kia America Technical Center Inc. A chrome 3 bar grill and jewel-projector headlights were added to the front fascia. The “slush molding” production technique was also adopted by Hyundai. Six airbags; an anti-lock braking system, electronic stability control, and traction control were standard features for the US market.

2011 to Present: Sixth Generation

Built from hot-stamped, ultra high-strength steel, the sixth generation Hyundai Sonata debuted in the Korean market in 2009. Direct injection technology was used by Hyundai on their new engines, improving fuel economy. A 6-speed manual and automatic transmission was also made available for the Sonata GLS and SE. Hyundai also introduced the Sonata Hybrid, powered by the Blue Drive power train. It was one of the five finalists for the 2011 Green Car of the Year award.
