Simple Tips in Keeping your Isuzu NPR-HD’s Diesel Engine in Shape
When it comes to heavy-duty trucks, you can certainly rely on the Isuzu NPR-HD to give you the best performance possible. It is powered by a diesel engine, so it is fairly low maintenance since diesel engines require less maintenance compared to gasoline engines. But of course, when you continuously use your Isuzu NPR-HD, it is bound to wear out over time. However, with regular maintenance, you can be sure that your Isuzu NPR-HD can be of service to you for a longer period. All you need to do is to know the basics to keep your truck's engine in shape.
- Inspect the glow plugs regularly.
Your Isuzu NPR-HD is equipped with glow plugs instead of spark plugs, which help in starting your truck's diesel engine. Diesel engine requires more heat for it to be able to burn diesel fuel, so glow plugs are used instead of spark plugs. Inspecting the glow plugs is a crucial step in the proper maintenance of a diesel engine. Since they are exposed to tremendous amount of heat every time you start your truck, they are bound to wear out quicker. To prevent starting problems, inspecting the glow plugs frequently, especially during the winter season, is a must.
- Monitor your truck's gaskets regularly.
Since the gaskets work under very harsh conditions, it won't come as a surprise if they wear out faster than the other parts in the engine. Gaskets are made to be thin to fill the gaps and seal in the engine oil, so they wear out much faster compared to the metal parts. For this reason, you need to closely monitor the state of the gaskets to prevent leaks. You very well know that when engine oil is leaking, the engine is bound to overheat, so make sure that the gaskets are still working properly.
- Change the engine oil at the recommended replacement interval.
Make sure to change your oil at the recommended service interval simply because the engine oil performs a very important task and that is to keep the engine parts from grinding with each other and prevent the engine from overheating. This is why the engine oil should always be in pristine state for it to do its job correctly. Because the engine oil circulates in the engine, it gets mixed with dirt from the engine. Also, because of the extreme heat in the engine bay, the engine oil breaks down, therefore reducing its lubricating capabilities. The dirty and broken down oil should be flushed and replaced with a fresh batch regularly.
- Replace the necessary filters regularly.
Your truck is equipped with filters like the oil filter, fuel filter, and air filter. Generally, they all have the same function and that is to keep dirt and small particles from getting to the engine. Because they filter out dirt and small particles, they get clogged up eventually. Clogged filters don't work well, so it is highly recommended that you change the filters regularly as well.
