The story of JC Whitney extends across generations, woven tightly into the enduring fabric that is America's love affair with the automobile. Our heritage is built upon innovation, and a deep commitment to serving our customers to the very best of our abilities. Evolving with the times has been a huge part of that.

Step back in time to some of the key moments in our journey.


With the automobile industry booming and Ford Model Ts gaining popularity towards the beginning of World War I, a Lithuanian immigrant named Israel Warshawsky recognized a great need and opportunity—selling affordable replacement parts to keep Tin Lizzies on the road. He realized his American dream by opening Chicago’s first large salvage yard, Warshawsky & Co., on the South Side at State Street and Archer Avenue.

During the Great Depression, the automotive aftermarket was more essential than ever. Buying a new car was not an option for most, and with cars as the main means of getting to work for many, auto repair and maintenance were key. This led to further growth for Warshawsky & Co., so by 1930, the company expanded into four retail stores, including a large retail center alongside the salvage yard on State Street.

Israel's son, Roy, joined the business and convinced his father to take Warshawsky & Co. to the national level by rebranding the company as JC Whitney with the slogan, "Everything Automotive," and distributing their print catalog beyond Chicago shops and mechanics to consumers all across the U.S. With a few phone calls and a $60 ad in Popular Mechanics, the first-ever JC Whitney mail-order catalog was born. In the ad, readers were invited to send 25 cents for their own copy of the “giant auto parts catalog," which drummed up a tremendous response.


During the post-WWII "baby boom" of the 1950s, JC Whitney continued to thrive, thanks in large part to the rise of new families and the success of full-page classified ads in magazines such as Popular Mechanics and Popular Science. These ads and catalogs of the time reflected the boost in demand for vehicles with big, bold style, as well as the parts to build and accessorize them.

By the 1960s, JC Whitney was a household name and an automotive icon with catalogs that had become a staple in every garage across America. They were famous for the fun, quirky trinkets that could be found in their pages, aside from your everyday car parts.


As performance and muscle cars took over the streets, JC Whitney began to offer automotive accessories with a little more flair, including gauges, wacky hood ornaments, horns, auxiliary lights, and vinyl van murals.

In the early days of the ecommerce era, JC Whitney opened its warehouse in LaSalle, IL, and launched JCWhitney.com.


JC Whitney held its first car show, which began a yearly tradition of hosting the largest audience-judged show in Central Illinois on the first Sunday in May.


To celebrate JC Whitney's 100th anniversary, the company held the JC Whitney Centennial Sweepstakes, during which entrants signed up for a chance to win their choice of two custom vehicles: a 2015 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited or a Ford F-150 XLT SuperCrew 4X4. The winner was announced at SEMA Ignited, during a special presentation that honored founding father and Automotive Hall of Famer Roy Warshawsky.


JC Whitney has relaunched on CarParts.com, providing customers with an upgraded, ultimately convenient shopping experience in our new home. The team is now gearing up for the release of JC Whitney’s first-ever line of accessories, starting with truck and Jeep products. Stay tuned for upcoming product launches!

If you have an account with JC Whitney but do not have one with CarParts.com, we will automatically create an account for you using the information you previously provided. You will be able to log in using the same credentials associated with your JC Whitney account. You will also be able to see any outstanding JC Whitney orders in your new CarParts.com account.

Shipping will not be affected. All orders are expected to arrive as scheduled. If you are expecting an order from JC Whitney that is scheduled to arrive on or after July 16, 2020, please be on the lookout for email updates on your order.

You can also check your order status in your new account with CarParts.com, which will be automatically created for you if you have an existing account with JC Whitney.

All customers will receive an email with tracking details once their orders have shipped. The email will also include a link where you can view shipment status and sign up for SMS/text notifications. If you placed an order on JC Whitney prior to July 16, 2020, please expect an email with shipping and tracking information from CarParts.com.

If you had an existing account with JC Whitney, we will automatically create an account for you on CarParts.com, which you will be able to access with the same JCW login credentials. Any outstanding JC Whitney orders will be transferred to your new CarParts.com account.
