PROS
- Before installing the K&N 57 Generation II cold air intake on our 2007 F-150, the vehicle was averaging around 15.8 mpg on gas mileage. After installation, we took the truck out for a test drive and the new mileage reading was at 18.5 mpg. We also decided to install a performance muffler on top of the new cold air intake, and the truck's performance improved to 20 mpg. With the addition of the cold air intake alone, it was evident that there was an increase in gas mileage and power.
- The part gave the vehicle a better sounding motor almost instantly. It created a nice tone whenever we pushed the pedal. It not only sounds great but it also accelerates better with the installation of the cold air intake. The throttle and exhaust hums were particulary impressive since it gave our truck a good muscle truck sound from the engine.
- The inclusion of all mounting hardware, as well as an instruction manual, made the installation of this part very easy. Everything hooked right in with no modifications needed. The directions on the manual were easy to understand and very helpful. The steps were clear and exactly as described.
CONS
- After fully installing the part, we noticed that the positioning of the cold air intake tube is a bit high and not aligned with the throttle body. This causes the tube to hit and rub slightly against the hood. We had to make a few minor adjustments to correctly fit the tube.
- Aside from a simple test drive, we also decided to take the truck for a cross-country trip with the newly installed cold air intake. We had a full load in the back and the air conditioner was left on during the whole trip. The trip averaged 18.3 mpg over 3600 miles. However, when we checked under the hood once the trip was over, we noticed that the C-Bracket broke at the bolt hole, possibly because of vibration. But besides the C-bracket, everything held up extremely well under the rigorous conditions.
Our say
The K&N 57 Series Generation II cold air intake can provide up to 15.47 h.p. at 3829 rpm. Its efficient filtration system and aerodynamic design allow your engine to breathe more easily by providing a less restrictive environment under the hood. Especially for those craving for more power in their vehicles, this part can easily go up to 100,000 miles between cleanings. Overall, when equipped with additional performance exhaust parts, this cold air intake can provide a decent upgrade in your engine performance.
