Mass Air Flow Sensor Adapter Guides

Replacing a Damaged Mass Air Flow Sensor Adapter in Eleven Easy Steps

A mass air flow sensor adapter is a useful component that can be added to the air intake system. It basically ensures that an aftermarket air filter can be securely connected to the stock mass air flow sensor housing of your vehicle. Since the sensor is highly sensitive, a damaged adapter may compromise the power, performance, and reliability of your car. If you've somehow managed to break the mass air flow sensor adapter on your car, you should replace it as soon as you can. To help you change it on your own, check out these quick and easy tips:

Difficulty level: Moderate

What you'll need:

  • Socket set
  • Wrench
  • Philips and flathead screwdrivers
  • New mass air flow sensor adapter
  • Owner's manual

Step 1: Park your car somewhere with a level floor area and good ventilation to make yourself at ease while you're performing this task.

Step 2: Lift up your car's hood and detach the negative cable from the battery. When it comes to working with any automotive component that's connected with the car's electrical system, it's vital that you perform this step before you do anything else to avoid electrocution.

Step 3: Locate the air box of your car. If you can't find it, you can simply take a look at your owner's manual to get a better understanding of its exact location.

Step 4: Once you've successfully located the air box, you should now be able to see the air intake tubes that are connected to it. For most vehicles, the mass air flow sensor is usually found around these tubes as well as the air box, so make sure that you inspect these parts carefully. Again, you may also consult your owner's manual to make it easier for you to find the sensor's location.

Step 5: Using a screwdriver, remove the cover of the air box. While you're at it, you should also remove the air filter and intake tubes. Keep in mind that the way these components are attached may differ per vehicle, so make sure you inspect their fasteners first and keep your basic hand tools within arm's reach.

Step 6: Remove the electrical wirings that are connected to the mass air flow sensor. You may need to use a flathead screwdriver to free the wirings from their locks.

Step 7: Unfasten the bolts that are holding the mass airflow sensor housing in place.

Step 8: Pull the mass airflow sensor out from your car. Once you got this part out of the way, you can now remove the damaged mass airflow sensor adapter.

Step 9: Install the replacement mass airflow sensor adapter and bolt the sensor housing back onto it. Make sure you secure it properly to keep it from getting detached.

Step 10: Plug the electrical wirings back into the sensor. You should also put the air filter and intake tubes back in their proper places before reattaching the air box cover.

Step 11: Reconnect the negative cable of the battery and turn on the engine of your car to see if the new mass airflow sensor adapter is working properly.

This replacement procedure may take just around one hour to finish if all the steps are performed correctly.
