NGK Iridium IX Spark Plug Review
Perfect air-fuel ignition and heat regulation of the combustion chamber—these are the two functions that you get from a good spark plug. But once the component’s gap clearance is changed and the electrode is worn, your car will start acting up, which will be a troubling scenario. Engine misfiring is one of the worst problems to expect, but you will be able to prevent this by just replacing your old spark plug. If you pick the right one for your vehicle, you will be able to prolong its life and enjoy a healthy ignition. Let us see if an NGK Iridium IX spark plug is worth your time and money.

We tested this spark plug on a Chevrolet Silverado and a Mazda 3, and here is what we have to say:
Thumbs up
- Ignition timing was excellent. Once we turned the ignition key, the engine started firing up right away. This meant that the spark plug has the right gap between .039 and .043.
- The car ran smoothly, and it seemed that every drop of fuel was being used efficiently. Acceleration was good, throttle response was good, and the Silverado and the 3 were like running anew.
- We tried climbing a steep road and noticed that both cars had no problems doing so. The cars’ engines were powerful and responded well to the demand.
- During idle, the engine was noticeably stable; this was due to the little dispersion in the spark position. This good idling behavior due to superb spark plug performance allowed us to drive the Silverado and the 3 at 25 miles in the city with only less than a gallon of fuel spent.
Thumbs down
- The price of this product is higher than that of common aftermarket ones, but it is only for about five dollars or so.
- The product comes with only a 60-day NGK limited warranty. Two months is actually short, unless you can drive your car within two months for more than 12,000 miles or 100,000 miles, which are warranties provided by Denso and AC Delco, respectively.
Verdict
Iridium IX spark plugs from NGK are actually good according to how our Silverado and 3 behaved. In fact, NGK is a trusted manufacturer of this auto component, so you do not have to worry about blanket statements and false promises. If you are comfortable with the price and warranty offering, then you only have to take that straight path leading to the use of NGK Iridium IX spark plugs.
