How to Change Oil Filter Adapter O-rings
Oil filter adapter O-rings get worn out over time. They become hard as heat degrades them, which causes your oil filter to leak. So before the leaking gets to your engine and damages it, replace your O-rings immediately. It's not such a troublesome task. It will only take up a few minutes of your time.
Difficulty level: Easy
Tools that you'll need:
- Torx set or Allen wrenches (depends on your adapter)
- Cheater bar
Step 1: Drain the oil, and remove the oil filter.
Step 2: Fit a ring spanner to the Torx bit. Make sure that there is enough room between the oil filter adapter and the interior.
Step 3: Loosen and remove the bolts holding the oil filter adapter. Use the cheater bar for the bolts to unscrew easily.
Step 4: Remove the old O-rings by using a screwdriver.
Step 5: Dip the new O-rings in oil and then slide them into place.
Step 6: Reinstall the oil filter adapter. Simply screw it in with two bolts.
Step 7: Put the oil filter back into place.
- In removing the old O-rings, be careful not to mark the grooves where they are placed.
- Make sure that the new O-rings won't roll or end up twisted upon installation.
- Be careful in draining the oil so you won't have to worry about a messy driveway.
