Nissan Radiator Articles

A car's auto radiator serves as the heat exchanger of the vehicle to cool down the engine as it reach its maximum operating temperature level. Continuous flow of heat into the engine can cause destruction. To prevent such event, the car is equipped with a cooling system to achieve balance in the temperature range of the engine. Nissan has one of the most efficient auto radiators in the industry. Nissan auto radiators are vital component of the cooling system to protect the engine from the negative effects of excess heat. Its main duty is to cool the hot coolant that flows from the engine. It is made up of two important components; the overflow tanks located on either the top or bottom core of the auto radiator and the core consists of several small flat tubes.

Older vehicles, specifically those models used for five years and up are exposed to greater possibility of cooling system defects. Vehicles that are constantly used for a longer period of time are constantly exposed to changes in environment that can negatively affect the car's cooling system. In cases of hot summers, insufficient amount of cool outside air can affect the systems' performance as time advances. Other chemicals like salt from roads and ocean air can damage the metals making up the auto radiator core. Poor cooling system performance and engine damage can be prevented by having constant check, repair and maintenance. All hoses and tubes connected with the system must be thoroughly checked. The system must be regularly drained, flushed and refilled to prevent rust and corrosion formation.

Flushing of the cooling system must be done once a year to attain its maximum life span. The first thing to do is to cool down the engine. If the auto radiator cap is too hot, it means that the engine is not cool enough to touch. Remove the coolant from the drain plug at the bottom of the auto radiator and replace it with water. Be sure to close it properly to prevent spilling and splattering. Turn the engine on including the heater control to open the heater control valve. Then add cooling system cleaner depending on the required amount of the container and left the engine idle for about 30 minutes. After which, stop the engine and cool it down for five minutes before draining the solution from the system. For a second time, fill the auto radiator with water and left the engine idle for another five minutes. Then, mount new coolant depending on the required type of the vehicle.

Nissan Radiator Buyer’s Guide

Summary:

  • Nissan is a proven pioneer of automotive innovation with the creation of vehicles like the GTR and 300ZX.
  • To keep your Nissan vehicle running and in good condition, it requires regular servicing and maintenance. One part that must be replaced when it’s failing is the Nissan radiator.
  • Nissan manufactures its vehicles and parts in three production facilities located in the United States.
  • OEM and OE Replacement components are equal in terms of quality. However, aftermarket parts offer better pricing and availability compared to OEM products.
  • Depending on your vehicle’s year, make, and model, the price of an aftermarket Nissan radiator is usually around $40 up to $1,160.

Nissan has always been a pioneer in the automotive industry when it comes to innovation. It has manufactured several iconic vehicles including the embodiment of Nissan performance and technology, which is the GTR, and one of the sleekest vehicles ever made, the 300ZX. Today, the Japanese automaker is the world's largest electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer.

Nissan vehicles are built to last, but they also need regular servicing and maintenance. This is to make sure that they are always in tip-top condition. One of the components that is crucial for your Nissan’s smooth operation and needs to be replaced when faulty is the Nissan radiator.

Who manufactures genuine Nissan radiators?

Nissan has been manufacturing vehicles in the U.S. through its three manufacturing plants. Vehicles like the Nissan Altima, Maxima, Rogue Pathfinder, and the Nissan LEAF are all produced in the production facility in Smyrna, Tennessee. Nissan Frontiers, TITANs, Muranos as well as NV Cargo and passenger vans are manufactured in the plant located in Canton, Mississippi. The last production plant, which is in Decherd, Tennessee, is where Nissan parts like engines, crankshafts, and cylinder block castings are made. These components are designed for the Nissan vehicles that are made and sold in the U.S.

What is the main difference between Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and Original Equipment (OE) Replacement Nissan radiators?

OE Replacement Nissan radiators are on par with OEM components in terms of quality. Both are made from heavy-duty raw materials to ensure that they can withstand the wear and tear that comes with constant exposure to extreme heat coming from the engine. As they are designed to replace your stock radiator, OEM and OE Replacement radiators are suitable replacements for your faulty unit.

Aside from having different manufacturers, the main difference between OEM and OE Replacement Nissan components are price and availability. Aftermarket radiators are relatively more affordable when compared to OEM. They also have better availability since there are tons of aftermarket brands that produce the same part, which is different from OEM radiators since they are only produced by Nissan and its suppliers.

How much does a Nissan radiator replacement cost?

The price of an aftermarket Nissan radiator falls anywhere between $40 and $1,160, and it usually varies depending on your vehicle’s year, make, and model. If you are looking for a 2006 Nissan Altima radiator, for example, you can purchase one for as low as $50.

Closer Look at Nissan Radiator

The Nissan radiator is an essential part of your cooling system, helping to dissipate the enormous heat produced by the combustion system of your vehicle. Without the heat dissipation activities of the Nissan radiator, the seals and gaskets in your vehicle would melt away, and even the metals in certain areas would melt and warp. There are a variety of ways that your Nissan radiator can be damaged through the years, and you can expect to have to replace it at least once over the lifespan of your vehicle, if you keep it long enough. It is vulnerable to damage from road debris, such as rocks, being thrown up, hitting with enough force to cause a hole, and thus, a leak, as well as road splash, often laden with dissolved salt in the winter months, which can cause corrosion, then leaking. Six Indicative Signs of a Faulty Nissan Radiator

Your Nissan radiator is among the most well-known components of your cooling system. Its main function is to dispel heat from the engine while still in the process of burning fuel. The radiator is important to keep the temperature of your vehicle regulated. Without it, your car is prone to overheating, which can eventually lead to irreparable damages to some of your car's vital components. A dysfunctional radiator can turn into a big problem if you don't address it immediately. These tell-tale signs will help you detect some of the most critical problems with your radiator.

Blinking ‘Check Engine' light

One simple indicator that something is wrong with your Nissan radiator is when the button that reads ‘Check Engine' is blinking ominously. It may signify that your engine is overheating and you need to have it checked as soon as possible. If your car does not have the Check Engine button, consult your car's temperature gauge. If the needle is on the red zone or close to it, then you know that there is really a problem with the temperature of your vehicle. It's best to have your radiator checked to prevent greater damage.

Flaccid radiator hose

When your radiator hose begins to flop, the circulation of coolant inside it becomes impaired, leading to irregular temperatures in your engine. A collapsing radiator hose can be caused by the heavy vacuum created by the water pump. Since the radiator hose is sensitive, it needs to be replaced periodically regardless of its state.

Leaky radiator

When there are leaks and hot steam emanating from your Nissan radiator, immediately call the attention of a professional. Patching leaky radiators is not a job for starters. It requires an expert to have them fixed. If you want your own share of the job, you can help spot the exact location of the source of the leak. It's not all too easy, but it can be done by anyone who has patience and a keen eye.

Irregular noises

If your vehicle has a traditional radiator fan module, you will hear a clinking noise when the radiator is broken. The noise can get worse depending on the extent of the damage in your radiator. As the broken fan slams into the back of the radiator core, you will hear alarming noises that will urge you to have your radiator fixed or replaced. However, if your car's radiator fans are electronically activated, you won't hear any sound when your radiator is broken since the fan's response will simply be to remain shut off.

Steamy hood

Needless to say, you have to consider context to validate this symptom. If you see the steam coming from the hood when you're driving in the rain, it's probably just raindrops steaming off from the heat of the hood. But when the steam rises from out of nowhere and for no viable explanation, then that may be an indication of a faulty radiator.

Unsynchronized ignition timing

Check your car's On Board Diagnostics (OBD) for error codes. If there is a problem with the ignition timing, there is also likely a problem with your cooling system. As a result, your car has a higher tendency to overheat even under normal driving conditions. If your car does not have an OBD, go to your local auto parts store and borrow one.
