Spark Plug Connector Guides

How Do You Choose a Spark Plug Connector for Your Vehicle?

Your petrol engine works because of the combustion process that happens inside the chambers of your engine block. The intake manifold sucks air in and feeds it to your engine while the fuel system sprays enough amount of power juice to the mix. But there won't be any fireworks if the mixture will not be ignited. This only happens when the distributor sends electricity to the spark plugs and generates the much needed jolt. The process will only work if the electricity passes through the spark plug connector. Here's how to get one for your vehicle.

Tell us what your vehicle is

Properly identifying your vehicle can reveal a lot of details that can be used for picking the correct spark plug connector. Different vehicles have different lay-outs, number of spark plugs, type of distributors and many more. Making sure that the connector will work in your specific set-up is a top priority. Otherwise, you might end up with chambers that can misfire or those that will not work at all. It is therefore important that you begin your search by narrowing down your options according to the following details: year, make, model and trim. From there, you will have a better picture of which connectors are compatible with your vehicle.

But there is a catch. If you are dealing with a modified vehicle, the approach mentioned earlier might not work for you. In this case, you might have to get to know your engine and its electrical system better. Take a look at the engine block, spark plug and the distributor in particular. The connector is the catalyst for these components. You might want to consider other components near the area as well.

How many do you need?

Keeping track of the number of chambers in your engine will help you determine how many connectors should be needed. If you are rebuilding an engine, then it would only follow that you will need a connector for each spark plug that will be put in the block. So it is important that you determine whether the power plant of your vehicle is a four banger, six banger, V8 or even V12. Knowing the magic number can also save costs. You can already get a set instead of getting individual pieces so that there are reserves in your garage just in case another connector needs to get replaced.

Do you have any preferred brands and how much are you willing to pay for it?

There are a number of brands that manufacture connectors and other related automotive electrical components. Some of the more known brands are Moroso, MSD, and Bosch. There are people who have a slight preference over brands like these because of the perceived reliability and quality. But we are not holding you back from choosing lesser known brands. Sometimes, products from these brands can offer the same integrity at a more practical cost. Just evaluate them carefully and try to look if there are any value added services that come along in their packages.
