How to Install Your Transmission Rebuild Kit
No matter what make or model your car is, a transmission rebuild is not cheap. If you have arrived at this page, chances are you have checked every single part in your transmission individually for problems, and have found none. You might have found out that your transmission is ailing, or has simply given up. Fortunately, we have put together a simplified guide for the DIYer who has time on his hands-a step-by-step tutorial on how to tackle the arduous task of rebuilding a transmission. Note that these instructions are applicable to a Dodge transmission. However, there should be very little difference with other manual transmission systems.

Tools that you'll need:
Step 1: The first thing you need to do is to disassemble the components of the transmission body. Remove the bolts on the bottom of the transmission oil pan using a socket wrench, and remove the pan. Remove the transmission fluid filter.
Step 2: Detach the gaskets, valve body, and separator plate from the top part of the transmission. You should now have access to the transfer case. Use a blow gun on the valve body and transfer case to remove any debris or old gaskets. The transfer case needs to be disassembled as well.
Step 3: Locate the shift selector pin at the bottom of the transfer case and remove it, along with the transmission oil pump. Carefully remove the snap rings on each of the transmission gears. Take note of the order in which you removed them, as this will be very useful during reassembly. Get the new snap rings, gaskets, seals, friction plates, and transfer plates from the new kit, and put them in place of the old ones.
Step 4: Replace the bearings and valve seals in the valve body with the new ones that came with the kit. At this point it is important to note that the kit you bought was made specifically to match your car model's requirements. Refer to the kit's manual as it might require a slightly different rebuild. Once you have rebuilt the valve body, begin reassembling the transmission.
Step 5: To start reassembling the transmission, replace all the snap rings on the transfer case pinion gears. Insert the transfer case into the transmission housing and reconnect the bolts. Reattach the housings and reinsert the fluid filter and pan. Finally, refill the transmission with transmission fluid.
