So I was driving my Volvo C30 this morning for about 10 minutes. I tried pressing the parking brake button and moved the handle up and down but nothing. Several tries and the cable finally released. I don't want to be experiencing this on the road on a daily basis though. Do you have any advice on how to solve this issue?
Even though you just used them when parking, your parking brakes are as important as the rest of your car's brake system. And yes, you shouldn't chance driving your car without solving the issue first. If your handbrake fails, you can first try leaving the car on first or reverse gear and chock the front wheels against the kerb. This should temporarily solve the problem. However, remember not to leave your car on a hill if the parking brake has already failed. To troubleshoot your problem, you should start looking at the parking brake cable as this is the most common cause of faulty handbrake. Make sure that the cable is properly aligned. It could be misaligned over time especially if you've been driving on rough terrains.
While driving my Volvo C30 around town earlier this week, I noticed some kind of a knocking noise coming from under the vehicle—especially the front suspension. It's getting annoying driving the car with such noise—it's not normal. Do you think you can give me an advice on how to make it stop?
Your car is outfitted with a suspension system to give you a smooth and comfortable ride all the time. However, this same system can also cause discomfort and disturbance once any of its parts get damaged or broken. That knocking noise you've been hearing is caused by damaged lower control arm bushings. It is recommended that you replace the control arm bushings as a set especially if the car is regularly subjected to heavy use. And since replacing the control arm usually affects the car's alignment, you should have your car realigned after installing the new bushings.
I bought this C30 a few months ago at a used car dealer in my area. The performance is still great and I have no problem with anything except for the power windows. They are intermittent in rolling up or down. Can you suggest a fix?
If your power window is malfunctioning, the first step to check is the fuse. This is usually the culprit of windows not wanting to go up or down. Your power windows have regulators that are high-current devices. Eventually, the fuse will pop from the burden of opening and closing all four windows in your car. Replace a popped or busted fuse. When a power window wouldn't budge, it could also be because of misalignment of the glass or lack of lubrication. You can solve your problem by adding lubricant to the window guides as well as making sure that the glass windows are properly aligned.
My C30's keyless entry suddenly stopped working the other day. It's frustrating because I was hoping to enjoy the added convenience of being able to just push a button to enter my car. Any idea how I could solve this problem?
There are several reasons why a car's keyless entry system might stop working. One is when the key fob is out of synchronization with the car's system. You can have it re-synchronized or have the entry receiver replaced completely. Also, check whether the problem is the key fob. If you have a spare at home, try using it. If it works, then your other key fob is the problem.
