Window Regulator Sliding Pivot Guides

How to Replace the Window Regulator Sliding Pivot in Your Vehicle

One of the most enjoyable things in a road trip is the view from outside the window. If you want to open it to feel the breeze, there are particular mechanisms in your window that makes it possible. One of these is your window regulator sliding pivot. Without this part, you will struggle to move your window in a close or open position. Hence, it must be well-maintained at all times. However, your window regulator sliding pivot can also fail over time. So if you need to replace it, here are the tools and steps that can help you to do the task successfully:

Difficulty level: Moderate

Things you'll need:

  • Open-end wrench
  • Screwdriver
  • Nut driver
  • Masking tape
  • Socket wrench
  • Grease
  • New window regulator sliding pivot

Step 1: You must first disconnect the negative ground cable from the battery terminal with the help of an open-end wrench. This can prevent any electrical accidents throughout the process.

Step 2: This time, open your vehicle's door that has the defective window regulator sliding pivot. With the help of a screwdriver, loosen up and remove the fasteners from the inner door panel.

Step 3: You may now see the switch plate of the window after removing the fasteners of the door panel. Using the screwdriver once again, lift the switch plate away.

Step 4: After the window switch plate's removal, you can now gain access to the electric connector. Disconnect it from the switch.

Step 5: To fully remove the inner door panel, use a nut driver to release its fastening bolts. Make sure that all its electrical connections are already detached. You may now set it aside from the door frame.

Step 6: To remove the old window regulator sliding pivot properly, you must put masking tape all over the edges of the window frame and glass. This will help to support the window while you proceed with the replacement process.

Step 7: Detach the electrical connector found on the window motor in order to remove it fully from the window regulator. Use a socket wrench for this matter.

Step 8: With the help of a socket wrench once again, remove the fastening bolts that hold the sliding pivot from the window regulator itself. Afterwards, you can unfasten the window regulator from the door frame.

Step 9: You may now install your new window regulator sliding pivot. It is better to lubricate it with grease first before attaching, so that the new sliding pivot will be able to move smoothly. Make sure that all its fastening bolts or screws will be attached securely onto the window regulator.

Step 10: This time, reinstall the components that you have removed earlier in reverse order. Reconnect the electrical motor to the window regulator. Secure the window regulator to the door frame afterwards.

Step 11: Reattach the inner door panel afterwards. Remove the masking tape that you have placed over the window's edges earlier.

Step 12: Reconnect the negative ground cable to the battery terminal. Start your vehicle in order to check if your new window regulator sliding pivot is working properly.
