Audi Cabriolet Customer Reviews

Oxygen Sensor - 4-Wire, Heated
Jun 26, 2020
Great parts, but ripped off on installation at BrakeMasters
Very happy with both the items you sent me, exactly what I ordered and fast delivery. I got both the "before" and "after" catalytic converter sensors, since the mechanic at BrakeMasters wasn't sure which one was causing the engine light. I told them to fix whichever it was - but the price the quoted me for a factory original sensor was $250.00 (!!) so I ordered these on-line from you, with their approval, and dropped them off. However, they later told my wife that neither unit would fit my 2012 Kia Sportage - some nonsense about "California Emission standards" (we live in Arizona and I bought the new car here). She didn't understand the details, and told them to get one that did fit and install it. When I picked up the car, the bill was $352.00!! And when they gave me the parts back, only the "after converter" unit had been opened - the other was still sealed in the packaging. Yet it was that one - the "before" unit - that they had replaced. They wrote on the Invoice that the parts I supplied didn't fit - now I'm going to have to return them to you, but not until I sort this out with BrakeMasters, where I've been a customer for almost 20 years. Wish me luck.

FAQs—Audi Cabriolet

I own a 1994 Audi Cabriolet and it's been driving nice since I got it. However, about a week ago, it started acting up. Now the engine would crank but will not start. What seems to be the problem here?

There are several reasons why your car would not start even though the engine is cranking. This could be because of spark problem due to bad crank position sensor. A no start can also be caused by a faulty ignition module or PCM. If your starter is already worn, you will also experience hard starting. You will need to replace the starter as well as check the connector to the battery. When the battery is weak or the cables are corroded, the car will also not start. Another reason for a no start is a broken timing belt. All these problems can be diagnosed using a scan tool that you can just plug to your car's onboard computer.

So I have this Audi Cabriolet for about 10 years now, and so far it's been driving smoothly. But a few weeks ago, it started to function weird. The engine will suddenly die while accelerating or it will sputter at high speeds. What am I dealing with here?

The symptoms you mentioned are all pointing to a bad fuel pump. When the fuel pump is not functioning properly, it struggles to pump fuel into the engine, and thus the poor performance. However, it's not always the fuel pump that's at fault. You should first check the fuel pump fuse and the fuel pump relay before deciding to replace your pump. These two are the most common culprits for a failed fuel pump. Try to locate the fuse, and if it's busted swap it with a new one; a busted fuse can't give enough power to the pump. If the fuse is good and the pump still won't deliver fuel properly, then it's time to check the relay.

While washing my Cabriolet, I noticed a pool of oil on the garage floor. It was just parked overnight but the amount of oil that has leaked is already significant. How do I stop the oil from leaking?

Engine oil leaks usually occur at the front and rear crankshaft seals, oil pan gaskets, timing chain cover, or the valve cover. Since the engine and its components are exposed to extreme heat, it can cause the cork gaskets to harden and shrink, which could result to oil leak. The older the engine, the more likely it is to leak oil in the gaskets and seals. Putting some crankcase oil additives can slow a leak because it can swell the aged gaskets and seals. But, the most permanent solution is to have the leaky gasket replaced.

I noticed some weird, abnormal noises coming from my Cabriolet's suspension. I have no idea what to do to stop it. Any tips?

The suspension system is designed to make your ride smooth even on uneven surface. Its main job is to keep the tires evenly on the road. Over time, the different components of your suspension system will get worn and you will start to feel your ride getting bumpy and noises are coming from it. This means it is time to inspect your suspension system. One sign that your suspension is no longer working as it should is when you have tires that are worn unevenly. When this happen, you need to have your car serviced before you have more problems at hand.

Audi Cabriolet: A Mix of Timeless Style and Reliable Performance

Released in 1991, the Audi Cabriolet was the perfect addition to Audi’s current range at a time when it was entering the compact executive segment that was dominated by BMW. Audi’s efforts were a success since the Cabriolet was able to grab a spot along with the BMW 3-Series and Saab 9000 as a top-of-the-line four-seat convertible. As a matter of fact, this timeless soft-top convertible was fit for royalty since Princess Diana was known to have one.

1991: Introducing the Audi 80 (B4)

The evolution of the Audi Cabriolet can be traced back in 1991 when the Audi 80 (B4) was introduced. A successor of the B3 version of the Audi 80, the B4 Audi 80 was equipped with a restyled gas tank, 15-inch wheels, a rear axle to accommodate folding seats, redesigned front and rear bumpers, and an interior covered with better materials. To further differentiate the B4 from the B3 model, it was also equipped with a front grille that was merged with the bonnet.

Under the B4 series, the Audi 80 was sold in different variants: a saloon, the Audi 80 Avant (estate) and a convertible that was simply known as the Audi Cabriolet. The Cabriolet was hugely based on the platform used on the B3 Coupe. However, the Cabriolet was only made available to the US market from 1992 onwards. Considered as the first soft top from Audi since the release of the Auto Union 1000SP, the Cabriolet was initially sold with a 208 L V6 engine. Because the US has its own vehicle safety standards, the front ends of the B4 vehicles had to be redesigned. The bumper and front end were tweaked so they could be fitted with impact energy absorbers. Over the years, it received only a few minor upgrades.

1994: Audi Cabriolet continues on

Despite a fairly successful foray into the compact executive car segment, several B4 models were discontinued starting in 1994. Production of the B4 Saloon was discontinued in 1994, and the Coupe and Avant units were pulled out in the following years. However, the Audi Cabriolet continued on and was in production until 2000.

1998: Getting a facelift

In 1998, the Audi Cabriolet received a facelift. The changes included brand-new headlights and instrument clusters and restyled bumpers. Just two years later, the Cabriolet was pulled out from production to make way for the ATT roadster. The Cabriolet body type was introduced again in 2002, but this time it was under the A4 series.

Despite its discontinuation, the Audi Cabriolet is considered one of the company’s timeless models because of its distinct style, reliability, engine performance, and durability. It also continues to be a symbol of Audi’s successful foray into the compact executive segment.
